Panoramic Roof Crack

Noticed a crack on my roof today by the fin. I do not think this is an impact damage; could it be due to thermal stress? Also, will the dealer cover this as a warranty item?

If the dealer determines it to be a stress crack, it should be covered under warranty. If they say it's impact damage, you'll likely have to go through your insurance.

One thing to note is that stress cracks on the windshield are only covered for 12 months or 12k miles. Not sure if that's the case with the glass roof.

This is a great example of why every Mach-E owner should check their auto insurance when they get it. Many states allow (some require) you to get a separate glass deductible. Having a zero glass deductible can be very inexpensive. The glass for this vehicle is very EXPENSIVE.

Glass claims have no impact on your rates with most companies.

I have zero deductible for $72 a year.

If it breaks the roof, concerned. If not, not concerned.

Only partly sarcastic. It would clearly depend on the size of the hail and the intensity.

If it hails large and fierce enough to break the glass roof, you can rest assured that there will be body damage as well

Well its laminated glass not tempered or you would have a car full of popcorn glass

OK thanks, rare but golf ball sized hail will leave a car well dimpled. What has been reported by those unlucky enough to be in a glass roofed car in that situation. I imagine lots of glass shards as in some windshield damage.

is your car one listed for the recall? My windshield got hit by a rock, I had it 'fixed' sadly it spread more. However the dealer that is doing the recall is just going to replace the windshield under the recall, because there is no way of getting it out without breaking it completely.

I highly recommend the extra glass coverage with your insurance company, it's very much worth it.

This doesn't appear to be a break due to impact from what I can see, I'm interested to see what the dealer says.

Mine cracked last summer. Dealer was great and got it replaced under warranty. About two weeks later is when the recall was issued. I had hoped that the recall wouldn’t be necessary since it was just replaced, but was told it was still required.

So far, so good. I hope yours turns out fine as well.

I got the windshield/roof recall done last month. If the crack was there at that time, I hadn't noticed the crack (it takes a special angle of sunlight to notice it), and neither did the dealership, I guess.
