Being an ex-CDN living in the states, I like having my headlights in during the day.
Which means I turn them to 'Headlamps On"
I have had a couple times now that I get out of the car and the headlights stay on.
Had the neighbor call one night the lights were on.. WTH?
Even tried locking the car etc... and yes I have played with the shut off timer.

Anyone else run into this issue.. I would think that any inactive period a new car would have automatic shut off.

Umm.....it does have automatic shut off. But you're manually overriding that when you force the headlights to On instead of leaving it in the Auto setting. You know it has daytime running lights, right?

Most Fords will shut off any extra lights or anything if you leave it for longer than 30 minutes to preserve the battery. Possible that this feature isn't working properly.

But yeah, what you want is the Auto setting on the headlights, not the ON position. When its on they are ALWAYS on.

Daytime running lights accomplish the “headlights always on” result without having to mess with the switch.

I haven't tried it yet on my MME, but most Fords will give you a chime if you shut the engine off and open the door with the headlamps still in the "on" position

As others have mentioned here, if your not in (automatic) mode then you are in (manual) mode, in which case like any other car your headlights will stay on until you (manually) turn them off, or your battery dies.. whichever comes first.

Let the car do it's thing and leave it in automatic with the normal daytime running lights (the light bars) and don't put yourself in a situation where your going to kill the battery because you forgot to manually turn them off.

Hi there, everyone! If you are using the auto headlamp feature and find that your head lights are staying on much longer than expected, try the following to reset the system: With the car on turn the head lamp to the off position and you should see the amber indicator light moving with the dial. When you turn the car off the headlamps should work correctly and the amber light should return to the Auto position when you key on.

I never take the headlights out of auto mode, and I’ve had to do the reset sequence twice in the last week. I hope fixing this is on Fords to do list!

Just replying to this thread to say our MachE started doing this after ~1 yr of ownership and never having this issue. I'll try the reset as suggested by FoMoCo.

I have had my car since Jan 22. Reset helps until the next time it happens, which it has many times. I have a case open with Ford, but last time I left a message I received no response. Bringing it to dealer this week for the 10K service, I will ask the if there is a fix and will let you know. There are other threads on this issue. https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/mach-e-wont-turn-off.6884/page-2#post-388620. https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/headlights-stay-on.15137/

We have had our MachE since March of last year and had this happen for the first time this week. A key indicator is turning off the car and when opening the doors you get the door chimes. Did a search here and found this solution so now that we know this it will be the first thing we check the next time we get the door chimes. Hopefully there will be a fix at some point since Ford obviously knows it is an issue.

This has happened to me numerous times. The light setting is on auto. I get out of the car and it is chiming away. When I look, the headlights are on. Go back to car, turn head lights on and then back to auto, issue resolved…until the next time it happens.
