Not True about the parts not being available, my MachE Gt Performance was dropped off last week for this issue and the part came in yesterday and will be back on the road wednesday!
You don't know that.

What you know is that they're replacing a defective part with a new part. That new part could have been produced 4 months ago, and be defective also. And, it seems likely that the "fix" is only software, preventing damage to the hardware, so it may be irrelevant.

Here's my two takeaways from the article:

"Nearly 49,000 of the roughly 100,000 Mach-Es produced during that time frame will be part of a recall, Ford spokesman Said Deep told CNBC."

"(T)he company’s remedy will include a software update to the vehicle’s “Secondary On-Board Diagnostic Control Module and Battery Energy Control Module.” It will be conducted remotely, or over-the-air. Customers also have the option of taking their vehicle to a Ford dealer."

So I'm guessing not all units. Some may only need updated software.
My fear is that this software remedy will further kneecap the GT and GTPEs to limit risk, but the accountants have already figured out what the litigation costs will be on this.

Just my opinion and not based off any facts, but I think it’s every damn car before 5/25. I think it sounds way better to say “maybe only some cars” than every MME ever built is going to have a recall! From a PR standpoint which sounds better?
I agree. Ford did the same thing with the glass recalls. In the end all vehicles at that time were recalled.

I’m looking for build date clarification, don’t rip me if this seems super simple. :).

my MME GT was originally scheduled for week of 5/16. Rescheduled to week of 5/23. Sticker shows a date of 5/13 at the bottom below all the graphics. A 5/18 date is listed in the special order section of the sticker at the bottom. My modules were populated on 5/26 and ford marked the car as built on 5/29.
So for the purposes of this recall, what date do you believe will be used?

It’s suppose to be delivered to the dealer over the next five days.
The date at the bottom of the window sticker changes everyday presumably until the car is built.

I’m super dense when it comes to this stuff, but my question is how does a software update fix what seems to be a defective part? If they are changing the part on all new vehicles produced wouldn’t that mean the part is the issue?

Max output limited to 150HP for 3 seconds, then drops to 50HP. No driving above 80F or below 40F. Top speed of 55mph.

I am not an engineer, don't play one on TV, and have never stayed in a Holiday Inn Express.

We're assuming a lot, but here's my answer to your question.

1) You don't know they are changing a part on new vehicles. You know they are replacing a part on vehicles that failed.

2) Software says when X happens do Y. Perhaps the contactors are staying together at the wrong time. Software says move apart.

Software can fix it if the software is allowing a condition to exist that is causing the part to fail. For example, if software is allowing too much current under some conditions that software can be changed to reduce current in those situations.

Speculation warning: They may not know exactly what is causing this. They might have a good idea of some of the factors in this cause but haven’t been able to identify a part or a software coding error. Or might not know the fix just yet. Or might be looking at a software update as a stopgap measure while they try to find the cause — all of which takes time of course. And as we’ve discussed here as nauseam, the third quarter is “soon.”

My guess is they don’t know if this is a trim wide thing yet, a dual motor thing or every car built. And the post May 24th cars? Let us know if they’re “throttled” in some way either acceleration or in DCFC peaks or some such things (all things talked about on the various HVJB threads).

Honestly, this notice of recall didn’t do the vast majority of us any favors., It just threw doubt onto cars that are and have been running fine, while offering those with real issues no solution at all.
I am pretty confident they know what is causing this. They have a new part number and cars after 5/25 are good to go it seems. My speculation is software will reduce load prior to contacts opening and closing as that is a major issue for DC circuits. That MAY be all that is needed for lower power models. High power models, like GT’s, will also need new parts. Fun to speculate as long as you realize (myself included) that until all the fact come out you really do not know.
