Pretty certain the way this plays out is Ford "*HOPES* its a software issue. They will try a software fix that decreases the likelyhood of the *HARDWARE* issue. But at the end of the day this is a mechanical problem (exacerbated by software) that will cost a insane amount to fix all of them. So hail mary is the play. But in case it's not, they have bought themselves a few months to figure it out for sure.
Well Ford do have history of a recall for a recall :(.

My mach-e replaced my Focus RS that I got rid off not only because it failed to live up to my expectations but also due to not wanting to deal to with all of the potential ticking time bomb long term reliability issues of the recalled engine and its numerous band aid fixes.

Oh well out of the frying pan into the fire lol, I will see how all this plays out but chances of me getting another Ford in my future where pretty much already sitting at 0% this certainly isn't going to be changing my mind.

I own a GT and what is a 5 second problem?
Press the accelerator to the floor from a stop and hold it down. Wait 5 seconds. You now have less power.

The 5 seconds is a maximum value and is reduced if the battery/motor/electronics is too hot already.

This is maximum amount of time that you have the advertised 480hp and even then only under certain conditions a lot of the time it can be a lot less.

Go into the GT / GTPE forums where you can read up on this issue, probably best to grab a coffee as you may be there a while.

The 5 second limit likely comes from the GT using the same pack as the premium without any upgrades. The bus bars in the Mach-E pack are tiny compared to the ones in Model-S Plaid pack, maybe only 3/4" wide vs. 4 inches wide. If you have experience sizing wires, it's clear the bus bars in the Mach-E GT are not going to sustain the 1000+ amps it uses on acceleration for very long without overheating. Upgrading the HVBJB will not do anything about the bus bars being small. So I think the 5 second limit will probably remain even after replacement. Also it wouldn't make sense for Ford to put more stress on a component that's already had a lot of trouble by removing the limit.

I own a GT and I'm wondering what is a 5 second problem?

I am pretty confident they know what is causing this. They have a new part number and cars after 5/25 are good to go it seems. My speculation is software will reduce load prior to contacts opening and closing as that is a major issue for DC circuits. That MAY be all that is needed for lower power models. High power models, like GT’s, will also need new parts. Fun to speculate as long as you realize (myself included) that until all the fact come out you really do not know.
Or the cars made after 5/25 are sitting in a field or parking lot down in Mexico waiting for updated parts to be put on....with updated software.

Has anybody on this forum taken delivery of a car made on 5/25 or later?

Could be like all the F-150 Lightnings in parking lots around Dearborn and Romulus that are on "chip hold".

Nobody has taken delivery, but some have shipped and are in transit. Others in the scheduled 5/23 build week are just getting modules and other production updates this week. Those vehicles were likely sitting or didn't get started, but appear to be moving through the process now.

Well I can tell you that even if your car arrives at the dealership, if this recall is announced nobody is getting their car until the fix is applied, but I'm guessing you know that.

The other thing is that it will apply to roughly half of the cars produced so far. I'm willing to be it's all the ER cars and none of the SR cars, but I could be wrong there.

EDIT: And this just in...Whomp, there it is!

If I was @Ford Motor Company I'd announce a CSP along with this recall program that paid the techs to perform any other outstanding module updates along with this one to help reassure the customer base that they do value their customers, and want their ownership experience to reflect that sentiment. So bringing the installed customer base current would go a long way toward that and help cement Ford's commitment in the eyes of current and prospective owners.

Ya know, I'm kinda glad that Ford was too incompetent to deliver a car in three months like Polestar. Makes me feel much better about that single cupholder.

did you not read the first two responses right above this post? And how could you frequent this board without knowing about the 5-second problem? It seems like its discussed in about 1/2 of the threads ;)

so @Ford Motor Company for those of us who had delivery THIS WEEK, what incentives can you give us for the headaches of having to wait possibly months now with our cars sitting on dealer lots rather than in our Driveways? Think we deserve some compensation don't you for this last minute situation!
Yeah, not holding my breath on that one and I have a feeling we won't be hearing much from this account for a while.

It is likely to be software and done OTA.
It will be hard to make people believe this wouldn't include (more) artificial power limits.
With that, we will definitely have two classes of cars out there: built before 5/25/2022 and after, with the applicable market value reflections. If someone doesn't have the car included in the hardware recall, I can see some people going crazy to "force" the issue to manifest itself.
