Plenty of arguments in this thread that the software fix is a bandaid and not a permanent fix.
Plenty of HOPE that the software is not the only fix. It is; however, Ford’s only proposed fix to the current recall. I believe many, if not most, are disappointed by this approach and argue that the HVBJB should also be replaced. But at this point I do not believe Ford intends it to be a bandaid.

Any takers on what the version number will be and what the release notes will say?

I predict...

2.8.3.1 or 2.8.4
and
"Minor adjustments to help your enjoy the journey ahead. Ongoing updates like this help you enjoy the best possible version of your Mustang Mach-E vehicle."

*spoiler*, this is what exactly what 2.8.3 said. Then we'll spend 50 pages trying to figure out if this was the actual update that had the "welding" fix and explaining it to other people and how to check what version they have, etc. *SIGH*

So why do you speculate this recall is a safety issue. If the contactor fries and it coast to a slow controlled stop I see no safety issue. We all agree to put up with the chance a tire blows. Something needs to happen when it happens "driving" that I am not aware of. Majority of cases I read here are while parked and no fire hazarded to date so not a safety issue just a PITA. I read no power steering but not that the brakes/steering locks up or anything of that nature?
It is a safety issue if it is preventable. Blown tire isn't always preventable. A car on the shoulder broken down, or even worse in the middle of the road, is a safety issue. Danger to themselves and others no matter what way you put it. You do keep power steering and power brakes when it happens.

Ford and many companies only tell people when they have to. Left Up to their own device they wouldn’t tell customers. All comes down to $’s And avoiding fixes or looking for cheapest way out.

the problem is that this is probably normal for Ford and happens every week. That’s not good.

You can replace Ford with probably every single company in existance honestly and I agree with you...

Probably even at the companies we work at, do we spell out exactly what went wrong? Most never will so we're kidding ourselves if we think Ford (or any company) will say specifically what is broken, but there are probably recalls weekly honestly at these big places.

I was wondering, I have a 2021 MME Premium with extended range battery, I took delivery Jan 3, 2021. Two days after taking delivery I got a warning in the car, "service soon" and the Ford App said; "Powertrain malfunction/Reduce Power". The next day when I took it to the dealer to have it checked out the warning in the can and the Ford App were gone, saying no active alerts. The dealer checked for error codes with their OBD2. They came back with no error codes. The dealer said not to worry if the warnings reset them selves then you should be o,. Over the next 6 months the same thing has happened 6 more times and the warnings in the car always went away. I got myself a BlueDriver OBD2 so that I could check for error codes myself and there has never been any.

I don't drive the car hard, no full open throttle events and I've only charged at a DCFC 2 times. Is it possible that they warnings I'm getting are a bug in the software and not caused by the problem in the recall? Thanks

Some owners have seen intermittent alerts due to low 12V battery voltage. I have a USB plug that shows battery voltage in the cigarette lighter outlet. (Many on Amazon) Leaving a door open or leaving audio on can drain the 12V.

You can make better tires but I get it. So no huge safety concern to be overly worried about is your take away? Someone here did mention they lost power steering when it happened but really don't know? Would be nice to know what to expect if it happens it being a safety issue and all. You would think if it was to protect the public that would be a requirement if when it happens the car acted totally abnormal/dangerous compared to norm and what should be expected? Maybe if they told us what could happen it would get even worse than the speculation that is going on right now. A lot are getting bent out of shape without too many facts. Can't be that dangerous if it can go out OTA at some future date. From what I have seen we may have another multi page thread titled failed OTA recall software club that runs for months. ;)

Well compared to the Bolt, all they said was don’t park in your garage? Did they also say , never drive the car as it may explode with you in it? I don’t know since I don’t have one.

trusting companies to tell you the whole truth is very commendable. I take what they say with many grains of salt.

Dealers say the darndest things.
I forgot to mention, he mentioned that it was a problem with the accelerator, not the battery contact. I know that this is part of the issue as mentioned here, but that worries me more that they are going to limit power. No idea where he got that, but it's what he told me.

You should probably start ignoring things your dealer says.

The other 50k were sold overseas and do not fall into this recall. It does not mean they are not having similar problems and if I recall there have been a few comments from overseas that have had the issue.
I bought my MME (RWD ER) in Belgium and according to Etis my MME is subject to this recall.

Mine is also bought in Belgium and is blocked for delivery. So not only VS cars are subject to this recall.

Nothing to do with commendable and more to do with corporate liability. Hard to stand up in court and say you knew about it but did not warn their father and hence he dead. Professional liability is a tricky thing that can max out liability insurance pretty quick if your negligent about public safety. I have been informed here that ford runs everything thru legal and I am sure they understand. Not everyone one is a boogie man.
