They could have always updated the modules again in the vehicle history if they wanted to. I think the service techs just don't like that we know more about the cars than they do because it's intimidating. Ford's not talking to them, and they're not used to having to talk with Ford like this is my guess.
I know, right? I suggested this to Emannuel and he got all pissy, telling me that this was not the proper procedure they must follow in the instructions.

So this dealer was flummoxed because the instructions allegedly didn't cover my edge case of the software already on the car -- and @Neil4Real's dealer did the opposite, not reading the Service Manual before clearing his codes and telling him "it's fixed!!"

TLDR: EXTRA BEEFY Mach N Cheese is back safe and sound at our hotel after its vacation alone. I only drove the car a little bit but it seemed just as peppy, and I didn't notice any jail bars. Will have to do some more seat time before any other conclusions. Will have plenty of that on my drive back tomorrow morning.

Okay, so inspired by @Mach-Lee I marched over there in my Ford Explorer rental car and walked into the service desk and said "I want the Mach N Cheese with extra beefy junction box especialle right now!"

@Mach-Lee or someone else -- do you have the workshop instructions for a dealer tech to use to perform the software recall? Does it specify that they must flash a certain version of software, or that they must verify the latest updates for several modules are on the car?

This is a potential gap in Ford's recall instructions and understanding of its customers. It is insane that I was kept another day in SoCal because this dumb dealer couldn't figure out how to notate that my car had the recall software on it. And also because they couldn't figure out how to communicate and be transparent with me about it.
Good job! I posted everything as attachments on the main topic: Battery Contactor Recall Software (22S41) Now Available at Dealers

The claiming thing makes sense, they aren't supposed release the car with an active recall. He didn't know what to do when he saw no updates available when he was supposed to do them. However this is going to be an emerging problem since most dealers have never heard of customers doing their own recall software updates before, and to my knowledge Ford does not have a system in place to mark updates completed if a customer does them. Ford needs to come up for a solution for self-updaters this since it will happen again. There is no way to mark a recall performed by an independent.

In theory, Fords FDRS servers should note the recall software was flashed and cause the recall notice to clear automatically, but that's not happening. My recall is still showing up even though I did it a week ago.

So what’s supposed to happen when people get the software for the recall in OTA? Does the OTA mechanism automatically update the recall campaign system that the recall has been performed on the vehicle?

OTAs do clear the field service actions automatically after a few days. It's a VIN reporting issue when you use FDRS yourself.

This is where the magic happens at Bob Wonderies Ford. Think they have to rename their Lube Center -- photoshop, anyone?

All I’ve got it β€œMachezuma’s Revenge Quick Lube Center”.

Glad to see you are back on the road. Hopefully the new part is actually fixing the cause and not treating the symptom of a bigger issue. I still feel like the repeated failures for some vehicles suggests there is another problem that hasn’t been identified but I hope I’m wrong.

Drive safe!

It's totally sanctioned! Ford sells licenses to FDRS to individuals like me, there's absolutely nothing illegal or below-board about it. This dealer could see every record about my car including that i did the recall software update myself on June 28th. They were just clueless about what to do to note that the recall had been performed.
The proof is in the experience, unless the service rep was not being honest, which is also within the realm of possibility.

It throws the dealer a curveball. You are in for an issue, but the car says the issue is already addressed according to the module history, but the Ford instructions say I have to do this for the customer? What?

And I assume the OTA for the recall will not apply itself on my car because it will notice that the modules are already at the proper version?

I totally have the feels for a dealer who doesn't have the right instructions on what to do in this instance to clear the recall.

I give the service advisor bad marks for transparency and communication. He lied to me today several times about the reason why my car wasn't ready, and if he told me the real reason they were blocked, I could have gotten a resolution on it through some Ford corporate folks who have been helping me.

There's no excuse for lying to me, especially when I'm doing my best to be nice and to be explicit on why I'm looking for my car back earlier in the day.

At least all of you have your car! My 3/14 build date arrived at the dealer 3 days before the stop sale. And now the dealer claims to have only 1 certified EV tech and he is too busy doing transmissions so there is nobody to do the software update and release my car and the 7 others in Stop Sale. I think if I ever get this car that it will be the last car I ever buy from Ford. Sure it’s my dealer that sucks but why did they allow dealers to sell EVs that have no personnel able to handle even the simplest of software updates. This is the 21st century. This model is totally last century and needs to be retired for good

That's a good question, not sure. It may try to do the OTA and fail, or maybe it would notice you're up to date before sending the OTA trigger. Unclear if you will get a notification on the customer-end of an attempted update or not in that case. I think they're still working on how to handle that if sees you have a current or newer version than it's trying to install.

I am taking a wild guess here, but I think the code says β€œif InstalledSwVersion >= UpdateVersion DoNothing;” ??

Happy you have your car back Scoop. I hope this β€œfix” sticks. ??

Just wondering if the OTA code might perhaps also update the recall campaign database server....
