When I saw @lindseybp 's post yesterday, I knew that while the video apps in his minivan were limited in many ways (because I had the exact same thing and bought an Amazon Fire TV stick a few months later; some of those video apps in the vehicle are even obsolete now), they are superior to the half-baked streaming apps Ford is putting out in one way: they actually utilize the same LTE uplink if the vehicle has a subscription to AT&T's data plan, instead of forcing owners to either tether to a phone or pay extra for streaming.
I know this is a brand new platform for Ford, but so was the infotainment system in the Gen 5 Odyssey back then - if Honda could get this little detail right at launch in May 2017, I don't know what excuse @Ford Motor Company has for getting it wrong in October 2022.
For a number of reasons I don't need streaming apps in my MME. While I regularly spend a lot of time waiting in parking lots, I usually read or work, and when I watch video my laptop is right there. I would rather see Ford focusing on fixing bugs related to using the vehicle for transportation rather than entertainment (for example, several OTA updates later the trip meter still fails to reset in my car from time to time, resulting in erroneous mi/kWh readings in FordPass), but that's just me and I understand the streaming apps may be of great interest to others. If these apps are going to be rolled out at all, they ought to be in better shape than they are now.

Got it yesterday. I connected to my mobile hotspot, opened YouTube, and tapped on the first thing that looked even remotely watchable - a best of family guy compilation. Worked fine.
Thing is, this is a pretty useless “enhancement” for me and I suspect the vast majority of owners. But just in terms of resale value I appreciate that Ford is striving toward some semblance of feature parity with Tesla. And that Ford rolled this out for free via OTA. And that Ford doesn’t require a subscription to use it.
So Thanks x3 to @Ford Motor Company
Now please keep working on OTA enhancements to the driving and charging experience!
