New to the forum with what may be a record: I only managed to put 270 miles on my 2022 MME GTPE before it died when I tried charging it on a public charger for the first time.

Fortunately, I was only 0.2 miles from the dealer when it happened and was ultimately able to get it to start again and limp over there.

Anyone else run into problems this severe this quickly?

Car was great while it lasted!

Wow, that MUST be a record. What was the build date for your car?

what month your car was built?

if your part on back order and no loaner from dealership you can contact Ford support and open case. They usually cover some rental cost, for me it was $45 per day, and help to push for ordered part.

Were there hills, goat trailers, some launches, or childrens music in those 270 miles?

Sorry this happened to you! Ford is still building cars with this issue. Quality is not job 1. Embarrassing for Ford to say the least.

I think that is jumping to conclusions because the typical failure condition for the HVBJB contact weld issue takes longer to develop than 270 miles. I suspect he has a different issue and not the infamous one, especially if he has a post May build date.

Let's see what we learn as this develops.

I recall one owner in the July timeframe had an HVBJB that failed instantly and basically it was a birth defect and not the standard failure scenario. It also seems that most of the failure occur during high current operations such as passing or hill climbing; however, I do seem to recall some failures that showed up during a charge. I am not going to speculate but am certainly interested to see what the issue is in this case.

I think it's key to know what the build date is here ..... and what codes the car had.

I agree more needs to be known about this case before jumping to conclusions. But this is why I am hesitant to use level 3 chargers and go on long trips with my GT. I would prefer to pay to get the HVBJB replaced to avoid the chance of failure.

Where were you charging? Was it an EA station with the new chargers?

There are various reports of different makes and models being bricked by the new EA chargers because they are delivering more power than the vehicle is requesting.

See the 45:00 mark in this video:

From what we know about what causes the failure, it is high speed driving that seems to be the key. I have tried to cause the failure with WOTs. Others have also tried that and not been able to get it to fail. DCFC has yet to be shown to be a cause, so I would not worry at all about that at all.

If you want to cause the failure in your car, drive it at a sustained 80-100 mph while going up a mountain. Flat speed might work, but going up a mountain is way more stressful on the HVBJB.

I have been taking my GT on trips ever since I got it. I now have 20k miles on the car, and I regularly set the cruise for 80 mph, which is sustained for more than an hour (except for when I hit slower traffic). I have done that going up and down a mountain multiple times. (Although I cannot maintain 80 mph going up the mountain I go up because there is too many slower vehicles.) Still no failure.

I know everyone has their own risk tolerance, but I recommend you drive the car the way you want to drive it. Anything could happen: flat tire, car accident, etc. Every time you leave the house there is risk and every vehicle could fail at any time for a myriad of reasons. Just drive and don't worry about it. That's my advice!

Honestly, that is some good advice. I may have missed posts like yours but I like your real world experience for your GT. I am no longer that kind of driver to push my car to the limit. That was in my 240sx and younger days. I just want to cruise now.

Thankfully the roads out here aren't too stressful. No real steep inclines or harsh roads. I would be mindful of that when traveling.

Thanks mkhuffman. Appreciate it.
