My Mach-E was broken into today with items stolen. Ford, can we have Sentry Mode?

Oh, that's terrible! Did the alarm not go off? Did you have things laying out in the open? Do you know if they were able to even open the door? I would think they would not be able to.

The alarm did go off and I got a notification on FordPass. I was out the door within 2 minutes, but he was already gone. He did not try to open the door. Smash and grab and run. I had a small backpack which I thought was well hidden on the backseat floor, partially under the seat. Apparently not. Unfortunately my wallet was in there.

I’m sorry this happened to you. Was the Tesla tinted? I always think that if thieves can’t see they are less likely to break in. Even if we had a sentry mode, our MME cameras are greatly inferior to the quality on the Tesla or most other vehicles at this price range

Gotta ask - why wouldn't you put it in the back where it is invisible? Or the frunk?

looks like you're in Sacramento. If it's anything like San Francisco, you'll be lucky if the police will file a report.

Because I got lax with security. My car is parked under two very prominent security cameras in a business park with patrolling security. My bag is black in a black interior with tinted windows stuffed under the seat. Figured that was enough to avoid spotting, but apparently not.

Amazingly the police came to the scene, took a report, had me airdrop them the photos and videos of the thief and his car, and even called me back later this evening for follow up questions. Will anything come from it? Unlikely. But being able to instantly hand them screenshots and videos of the guy's face, profile, and car may be the difference between a lead and nothing. My Tesla friend sent me the videos within a minute of me asking so they seem to have a good system. I will update here with any good news.

FYI the cameras are positioned differently on the Mach-E vs. a Tesla, even if we could record them we'd only see a distorted view of the thief's legs, not a face. Teslas have side repeater cameras that are looking backwards instead of down. Only the front camera on the Mach-E would be worth recording, but you can just buy a dash cam for the same view.

It's a good idea to completely hide valuables, the thieves look in your windows with flashlights. If they see a partially hidden bag they know that's more valuable than something just lying out in plain sight because extra effort was made attempting to hide it.

Lessoned learned. Don't leave anything in your vehicle.

Sorry this happened to you OP but this isn't Fords fault.

There’s also the rear camera. The individual drove up right behind me in his car, which would have also easily been captured by that one. Front and rear would be useful still.

I always worry that whatever I take out of the car and put in the back will be seen by the perpetrator, so I do hide things inside too. Time to revise my thoughts.
So sorry!

Not blaming Ford. Just saying it’s a practical, useful, possible feature they should consider. The thief was in and out and gone within 30 seconds. Too fast for anyone to see and stop. That footage may be the difference between no follow up and a lead.

I’ve thought about this too. After showing my coworkers the Tesla video one said he saw this guy a few hours earlier walking around and we have footage of it. He was apparently hanging out and casing the lot for targets. Putting something in the back or even the front would be an easy target.

That sucks, one reason why I tinted my windows, I don't like people seeing into my car. I do wish the Ford had the sentry mode as well. I had a dash cam installed first thing, no way I was going to leave a he said she said option on the table if I got in an accident.
