What made you choose an extended range, all-wheel-drive, or both?

I went AWD for resale value in the Midwest. Snow is an issue and a trusted motörhead friend highly recommends the safety aspects. I went ER due to range loss in cold weather. I want to do regular 150-200 mile round trips without using public chargers and when it is well below freezing it would not leave me feeling comfortable with my battery reserve. Also, I could afford both options.

Range (winter range) and traction in the snow. Not a problem for you. How long are the trips and how often is the question. Your commute is no problem will work. The question becomes are the charging stations close enough to make it and do you mind charging a few more times on your trips. That we can not answer.

You were almost getting 350 miles on a SR? That is amazing at 55 mph? 280 miles is the most I have seen on my ER but it has keyed into my driving style. Running from 80% to 10% that is only 0.7 x 280 or 200 miles.

0 to 60 times. The GT was an even longer wait. So Premium AWD ER because 0 to 60.

And this. Was it for the up hill or down hill times in your case? Mine is plenty fast enough and more than adequate for highway passing. Kind of glad the GT was not available as I would most likely have it and do not need it.

If you live in a place where it gets cold, get the ER AWD. AWD helps in snowy conditions and you'll thank your range anxieties slightly when you see the mercury drop. EVs are notorious for dropping range when it gets cold.

I live in the NE, snow was the consideration for AWD. I wanted all the range I could get, hence the Extended Range battery.

Same here. Plus, if it turned out I didn’t like the car, I was hoping that it would be more desirable over some of the other trim levels when selling it.

Sorry for not being clear. I meant between charges. I got about 200 miles range with full tank @75 mph. With rain, cold, wind and hills (about 3000' grade) @60-75mph, SR was only good for 160 miles (100%) or 112 miles (10-80%). It was barely enough distance to the next EA station.

Not sure really how accurate this is but has appeared reasonable so far. I did it before purchase to see if it would do my trip. It shows the trends to be aware of (temp and speed). Throw in head winds, plowing through snow and it becomes a dogs breakfast. Reduction happens above 70F also but not as drastic and was not my worry.

Thanks. Did not want him basing his decision on the understanding that the SR does 350 miles. It may but at 30 mph.

I went with a premium AWD ER for several reasons. The Premium offered the amenities I was accustomed to, mainly the better sound system. The AWD for the better control in wet and snowy conditions. The ER for the fact that I did not want to worry about range, and I was aware of the cold weather reduction in range.

The side benefits are, less expensive insurance than my previous ICE vehicle, the up to 75% reduction in vehicle expenses (gas, maintenance, etc.) and the wife loves it when I blow away snot nosed kids in their ice muscle cars at lights!

While I only do under 20 miles daily for my commute, we tend to do day trips on the weekends and being able to travel upwards of 280 miles on a charge makes it easy to plan trips.

When I ordered my MME I had test driven both a select 2wd and a premium awd and the fun factor of AWD outweighed the cost advantage of 2wd.

Coming up on seven months of ownership I am very happy with my purchase and the only thing I could change if it was possible was to remove the Bluecruise, I do not think the added $600 at the time of purchase was worth the technology provided. I tend to enjoy my driving experiences and like to stay "In Tune" with the vehicle and drive it myself.

If you are already spending $45k+ on a car, don’t cut corners you may regret in the long run just to “save” $8k (or whatever it is now).

Aside for very specific and limited use cases, the 4X is the best and most robust balance of traction, acceleration, and range for most people. If you take even infrequent road trips of greater than 150 miles, you will regret not having the extended battery. My 4X highway range in winter is only about 200 miles. That is already a serious pain in the ass in the Midwest. I cannot imagine having gone with standard range.

Also, do you ever plan to sell your car? The 4X will hold its resale value better.

Was cross shopping luxury vehicles; so wanted the more premium feel.

AWD-
Wife doesn’t like changing out tires seasonally. Live in New England; pretty much needed without dedicated winter tires.

Extended range-
Keeping this car for 10 years+. Want good range even when the battery starts to degrade.

I have a GT so its already AWD but if it were a choice I would have gotten AWD in any case living in New England with its snow. The extended range battery makes the car that much more versatile especially in northern New England where public chargers are scarce. There are plenty of posts about range anxiety and my guess is a shorter range battery would only add to that but that is just my 2 cents.
