I think I can answer. Based on my own experience, it may be a strong enough magnet to just barely hold it. Try and see. But it will work much better with a MagSafe case. That said, search on Amazon, pretty sure I saw something where you can just buy a stick on ring you can put on an existing case to make it MagSafe “like.”

Great job! I ordered one.

But I have a question for @twraps : My iPhone 14 Pro Max is surely compatible, but I use a Tech-21 case that doesn't have the MagSafe ring on the back. Will the magnetic place holder still work? Or will I have to buy a MagSafe case?
I am not sure to be honest. If the case is thick it will probably not work. If it’s thin it may but the magnetic attraction will be weaker for sure. Have you been able to use this case with other MagSafe accessories (chargers, batteries, wallets) to see if it sticks?

If enough many people request such an option, yes absolutely, but for now I prefer to keep it simple in terms of manufacturing (as we manufacture everything ourselves) and limit it to just one SKU.
I'd love it if you could offer some of the material finish options you have for the Rivian version, but I understand that you want to keep things simple.

I can verify that it does not rattle. I've been driving around with the finished prototype and its very secure. Also, I'm not noticing my phone getting very hot. Not as hot as the built in charger anyway.
So the thing is snug enough that the pad does not lift up when you pull your phone up to remove it from the charger? I was wondering if I need to double-sided tape underneath the pad, but I'm guessing this isn't necessary because of the fit?

Do you mean the skins? If so - that's on todo, just need to catch up on some work before I release that too.

I think it's best for @PhillyYa to say, because I am so used to these things from all the prototyping that I unintentionally have a technique to separate the phone without lifting the pad. But I believe you don't need double sided tape.

Mine has not pulled up. But, I think different MagSafe cases can have stronger or weaker components that can change how strong the magnetic bond is. So it might be a YMMV kind of thing.

Interesting, as I cannot leave my iphone on the OEM charger more than 40 min or so; as it overheats and stops working on the screen.

This is dope! Would love to only have one charging component so I could use the other side for my sunglasses, but totally get the need to keep production simple. Ordering one today!!

This looks really awesome and I’m definitely interested in getting one. Just one question. Is the matte black area of the pad a hard plastic or rubberized non-slip coating? I keep a bunch of small items in that area, like a parking garage transmitter, pen, ect. and I wouldn’t want them sliding around.

Frustrated by the crappy wireless charging mat in the Mach-e, I set out to see if there were any aftermarket solutions. Couldn't find any, but the closest I found was a double MagSafe insert custom made for Rivians from a company called TWRAPS. I contacted the owner, Iliya, to ask if they could make one for the Mach-e. He was very enthusiastic about it and asked me if I would help him design and develop it. I'm happy to report that after a month or so of testing various prototypes, we've arrived at a really great solution. Basically all you have to do is remove the cheap rubber mat and drop in the TWRAP's charging plate. It's made from a thick, hard plastic, has not one but TWO MagSafe charging puck built in, plugs directly into the USB-C port without blocking the other USB-A port. It has a lower front to allow for the thick camera lenses on newer iPhones so your phone sits perfectly level. With the MagSafe connection, there's no phone sliding around and you can charge two phones at the same time! Big enough and spaced perfectly for any combination of regular size iPhones and Pro Max's. It fits securely, doesn't rock or move around. Very solid. Charges great. Have a look at my pics of the final product that's now in production. You can find it here if interested: https://twraps.com/products/magsafe-dual-wireless-charger-for-mustang-mach-e

Out of the box - no :(
But if you get a case like that it should:

Another option, which would be great for people who also have motorcycles/bicycles/etc are the magsafe cases from https://www.quadlockcase.com/. I use one to be able to attach my Pixel 7 Pro to my Grom, and it adds magsafe onto the phone as well.

I'll definitely be ordering one of these mats to enable my wife to charge her phone as well.
