I'm also reaching out in parallel with Chargepoint, but their 1-888 number is not manned on Saturday mornings I guess?

My Home Flex stopped connecting to my wifi a little while back. This morning I've run around the house changing settings on my wifi trying to make sure it is not the issue, but I finally think I found a bit of a smoking gun pointing at the station itself. I'd love if someone has time to check something for me.

Just to confirm what the app uses to connect and configure the wifi on a station, I started the "Reconfigure Wi-Fi" process with my bluetooth and wifi disabled on my phone. The app prompts to turn on bluetooth, connects pretty quickly to the station, and then I believe it uses the station's wifi to scan for a network to connect to. When it gets to the "Select Wi-Fi" stage, it displays no networks. When I scan from my garage I can view roughly 20 APs (its pretty congested on the 2.4 GHz) network.

I'd love to know if someone else disabled Wi-Fi on their phone and did a scan, do they come up with a bunch of networks, theoretically proving that the communications card on the Chargepoint is the part scanning?

Things I have tried for troubleshooting:
  • Power cycle the breaker for my charger
  • Physically unplug the charger
  • Change 2.4GHz control channel
  • Move a Wi-Fi extender into the garage about 6' from the Chargepoint Home Flex
  • Disable beamforming in my Asus Router per a reddit thread I found.
Not sure what else to do now other than keep trying their 888 number and wait to see if they reach out to be per the form I filled out on the Chargepoint site.

The WiFi module in your charger has likely failed.

Did yours just complete a software update or anything? Mine updated to 5.5.2.15 on March 15th.

Agreed. If not seeing wi-fi networks, as in Cool Hand Luke, "what we have here is a failure to communicate". Mine updated to the same version March 17. Still talking to my wi-fi.

Good luck with the helpline, RV. One of the few poor reports on ChargePoint is their call in system. You might need some patience there.

I've recently been having the same exact issue. EVSE won't pick up any WiFi signal at all. I've tried unplugging for a few minutes and plugging it back in. Resetting the router. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Nothing has worked.

Did you reach a resolution? And if so, how did you fix it?

TIA

After reading this post, I'm glad my home flex charger isn't hard wired, so I can use the 240v plug as a backup to my Charge Point charging station. Sorry you're struggling with the charger Adam.

It was a long, annoying phone call with tech support, but they sent me a replacement. It seems like a pretty common issue with what is otherwise a great EVSE.

Don't bother trying to create a ticket on their website. I never heard back from that.

Thanks for closing the loop. All info is good to know if that happens with ours. Hope you get a good one that doesn't have this problem.

Update on my end... Woke up this morning to a green light. I didn't do a thing, so I have no idea what resolved it. I don't really use my EVSE for scheduled charging, but I think I need to be connected via WiFi for a local program cash rebate benefit.

So long story short, technology is great but it's also the worst.

Similar issues with my Juicebox 48. It charges when I plug in, but those WiFi features are hit and miss at best. The app usually says “offline”, but it is charging. Any remote commands need to be done with the Ford Pass app.

I believe you can still charge without the wifi.

On the phone with their customer support right now. A couple of days ago, the rep said they'd send a replacement then I got an email asking me to call them, so here we are.

Have reset the router (again), reset the breaker (again), they deleted the charger from my account and we tried to reset it; still no joy. I refused to unpair all my bluetooth devices. Now, they're going to email me for some more information.

I've had decent luck so far with the replacement, but I do regret getting it in the first place. It seems like the EVSE is flawed in some ways.

It had really good reviews when I bought mine and it did work flawlessly for 7 months so I’m hopeful.

What I find really frustrating is the bush league failure analysis process. If I can connect via Bluetooth and the thing can’t find a single wifi network when my phone can find 3, it seems pretty obvious to me it’s the receiver that’s the problem. Seems like a parts issue to me.

Rebooting the charger, the wifi router and reinstalling the app aren’t going to, and didn’t fix that problem.

I had a similar problem several months ago (couldn't connect the EVSE to Wi-Fi) and somehow (I don't know how it was even possible) ChargePoint was able to fix the problem remotely. It was very odd since I don't understand how they could reach a unit without internet access, but I was happy it worked (and to not need to swap the hardwired unit).

Very interesting.

I just had an email from ChargePoint listing the same old same old troubleshooting steps but with 3 new ones; making sure I was not trying to connect to a 5G network and suggesting that I use a network with no password or my phone as a hotspot.

I suspect the latter two were because of misinformation from the (no)helpline that the problem was failure to add the charger to my ChargePoint account so I got to clarify that the problem was a failure to detect any networks at all.

Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately for ChargePoint, I have a decent amount of experience in Parts, Materials, and Process analysis for manufacturing. Anyway, I pointed out that given the lack of changes on my end of the configuration, and in the absence of knowledge of any changes on their end, it seemed pretty certain the problem is with whatever hardware in the unit detects and connects to networks.

Hopefully, I'll have a new unit soon.
