Usually if the button lights up before you press it, it will only take one push. If it’s not lit up, it will wake the car.
There’s also a 3rd option that happens once in a blue moon where it sounds like it tried to open without unlocking the door…lol
That used to be my experience too, but the last several months, it seems even when the buttons are lit up before I press them, the door still won't open and I have to press it multiple times. I would blame it on PaaK, except this has been happening with the key fob

Here is my experience as somebody who has been beta testing PAAK on this car for over two years…

The purpose of the door button is to open the door. It does not send a signal to “look for PAAK.”

The trouble is that sometimes the car doesn’t detect PAAK and wake up before you get to the door. Why this doesn’t always happen is one of life’s great mysteries. But if the car wakes up as you approach, you’ll see your taillights flash, which tells you that your door (the front driver door, anyway - we’ll get to the rest in a sec) is ready to open on the first push.

IF the car did not detect PAAK as you approached (this seems to maybe be better after the latest OTA update, but jury is still out), then pressing the button should start the process of waking up the car, but this can take several seconds before the car is ready for PAAK. At this point, it is easier to use the door sill keypad, which will unlock the car immediately.

Finally, there is the issue of sometimes having to open the front driver door before any of the other doors will respond. This happens frequently and I have no idea why. It is not a setting, but some random bug that Ford still cannot figure out.

Interesting question. I exclusively use PaaK and it is hit or miss on how my entry to the car works.

Some mornings I walk out the car "senses me" and the button is lit up and upon a single press it opens.

Other times, I press the button and I hear some sort of "activation" towards the front of the car, generally followed by (within a second or so) the button lighting up and then it working.

And further times, I press the button tons of times and nothing happens. I then pull out my phone and get it close to the front door (I'm usually trying to get into the back to drop my bag first) and then it connects and works.

Overall, I still like Paak enough to not carry the fob, even with the inconsistent performance.
I've noted it favors Paak (notifying me of Paak), even if I'm carrying the fob, if I happen to wake up the FordPass app before I walk out the door to check the charge status.

But if my phone is asleep or the app went to sleep, everybody's got to wake up. And who wins is a big question.

BTW, anyone else notice that after this latest update, the darn door-open chime is continuous regardless of whether the car is on?

I agree. Even without Paak, the first press does nothing. I treat it like an elevator button, pressing it as many times as necessary for the stupid door to open. You simply can't run up to the car, jump in and go. It has to admit you first.
I find that if you have your phone in hand, or in front pocket as you approach the button almost always lights up before I press. If I have phone in back pocket, further away, it is less reliable.

PAAK/2021/Job1: it seems to take one press to wake up and another 1-2 seconds later the button lights up and a second press opens it.
If I try the rear door first, it's nothing on the first and each subsequent press until I press the driver's door then both open.
I had that behavior for a long time. At first it was the front passenger door. I'd have to open another door before that door would open. If I pushed the front passenger door button and then pressed the rear passenger door button quickly enough, both doors would open simultaneously when I pushed the rear door button.

Some module updates seemed to solve it, at least for a while, and then I think it was a different door. It may have been the reset associated with module updates that fixed/changed things. But I haven't had this behavior for quite some time now.

Half the time it takes two button presses to get the door to open. Even more if you are trying to lock pressing the lock button

I don’t understand why some people obsess about stuff like this. One press or 50 it doesn’t matter if the door opens.

Honestly, another thing Ford needs Tesla's help with besides charging connectors is their PaaK technology.

Usually, I fumble around looking for the little button while my girlfriend grows increasingly frustrated. She doesn’t have the same problem because she just needs to grab a handle and yank it.

After I pee, I push the button to flush the toilet. I don't know about you, but I was taught to do it that way from a young age.
You guys have push button toilets in CA? ? you get all the cool modern stuff out there! Here in Pennsyltucky, we still have to push a lever and hope for the best ?

Joking aside: Job 1, use PAAK exclusively. If I’m in my garage, the approach lighting is on, and the door opens with the first button push. Outside (say, in a parking lot), if the approach lighting comes on as I approach the car, then it opens on the first push. Otherwise, it’s a crapshoot. I’ve had it take up to 7 button pushes before the door deigned to open.
