Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to leverage the knowledge in this community. I'm in the market for a new car and strongly considering a Mach-E. I'm interested in a Premium model, but trying to understand if the new LPF batteries are expected to be part of new Premium builds. If so, does anyone know when those should start showing up on deal lots?

Thanks, all!

My understanding is that all standard range cars being built now have the LFP battery. The switchover was April or May, IIRC.

Correction - as pointed out in subsequent posts, LFPs are not yet delivered.

Yes ... but ONLY IF you order a Standard Range battery version of the car.

The Extended Range version still use the Li-Ion. This is because one of the trade-offs is LFP batteries store less energy density. To store the same amount of energy ... the battery needs to be physically larger. They have the room to do that if the car is ordered with a Standard Range battery. But they do not have the room to do that if the car is ordered with Extended Range.

All standard range batteries will be LFP, including the Premium. I haven't seen any reports of them arriving at dealers yet though.

Thanks, this is what I was trying to confirm. I could try to hang on a bit longer with my current vehicle if standard-range LFP Premiums are fairly imminent, but wanted to figure out if it's weeks or months away. I've seen the SR Selects start to get the new batteries.

OK, so it sounds like they're coming, but it's not clear exactly when.

I took delivery of my Premium Standard Range RWD this month. It was built in May and does not have the LFP battery. I saw several outlets report that the standard range LFPs go into second-half 2023 builds.

you can confirm battery type on any built model by looking at the 8th digit in the VIN. LFP will be indicated by a 4 or 5. anything else will be the NMC chemistry.

I've also noticed that the Windows sticker, which you see for an online model, will list a 72 kWh battery for the LPF models (vs. a 70 kWh battery for the NCM batteries).

While I don't know about which model has a new battery or will get that but I can recommend you to run away from the Mach E as fast as you can, this car was outdated the day it was announced, slow fast charging, tons of software issues with various stuff inside the car, long service times with most of the dealers in the nation, many issues with few qualified techs to troubleshoot, bad resale value.
I recommend you get a Tesla, you are buying a technology not really the car and Ford isn't the best, if you happen to be an anti-Tesla guy, then get a Kia or a Hyundai they are the next good thing after Tesla.

All standard range packs built from now on (>2023.5) will be LFP. Which will be available in Select and Premium trims.

Should be any day now...

Kinda curious now, do you want the LFP battery? If so, why?

Seems the SR models come with it due to cost savings and lithium shortages, not because it’s better (although it does have some pros).

My understanding is that the LPF batteries will charge faster and have longer lifespans.

I would love to trade for the LFP version if I could (that train has left with what I paid/less credits now).

You can have it charged always to 100% and folks feel LFP is a safer chemistry in general (me included).

Batteries weigh more and much less range.

Will you DC charge frequently and keep your car past the 8 year warranty?

If not, then the new battery is all downsides.

From another thread- “My vote is that if you live anywhere with an actual winter, stay as far away from LFP as you can unless you just want a local runabout. It will be heavier, slower, have a longer stopping distance, and have substantially less range, especially in the cold.”
