Some context:

1. We traded in a Tesla M3 for MME GTPE and a Prius 4T for an Audi SQ5

2. We (clearly) love the MME GT PE and are planning to keep it until its last day.

3. However, we feel like we made a slight mistake getting the Audi SQ5. It’s a very low mile fully loaded refreshed version and for the most part it’s a great car. But the turbo lag / downshifts, lack of quick maneuverability, and the atrocious fuel economy (our bars are set high given that we only drove a hybrid and EV sedan for over a decade) are getting a little annoying. Love the build. Love the features. Love the sound system. Love the highway comfort when we are cruising. Hate driving it in the city.

Question:

- What would you do in our situation? Get another hybrid plug in like a Tucson / Sportage, or a hybrid like Venza / RAV4

OR

- Keep the Audi and use it sparingly. The issue here is that if we do so, it’s like we are down to one car unless we are going on long trips (90% of our drives are city) and the price of this gas car will keep depreciating wouldn’t it?

OR

- Go fully electric and buy XXX as the second SUV. The only thing here is that my spouse is very concerned going fully electric household as she feels like fires may force us to evacuate in rare circumstances and gas is the safest. I kind of agree with her but I also kind of don’t :) back to the point above - if we just keep the Audi it’s almost like we have one active car and one inactive car for zombie attacks lol

what would you do? :)

We have 2 electric cars. My MME and my wife has an i4

I have a cheap 2000 Tacoma for pulling dirt bikes. I wouldn’t have that if the MME could pull a couple of thousand pounds.

One car: MME. That’s all the car we currently need. If / when we need a second car, it’ll be a M3P. We’d never drive ICE in any form again.

I have my 2023 MME CR1, and my husband has a 2022 Volvo C40. Mine for range. His for towing. Also, his was used as a 6 month lease, then sat on the lot long enough that the price was significantly better than buying one new.

Assume you didn’t have the Tacoma. And say you didn’t have towing needs.

would you foresee any issues owning two EV in case of emergencies?

Interesting. I guess owning just one car and that being an EV, you’re essentially fully electric household. Do you foresee any risks with that approach? Say in an emergency situation ?

Solar - provide more "electricity" than we consume
one EV is charging, L1, directly from solar most of the time
all electric (heat pump, heat pump water heater, etc.)
battery back up
no fossil fuels consumed for energy - five+ years
no problems as of now (except never ending battle w/ utility company)

Nice rides! I'm thinking after my Blue Cruise subscription runs out on my Select AWD, get the 2026 MME GTPE, and a Cybertruck.

Mmm, if I was buying right now, I’d go CX-90 PHEV. My partner is leasing a really nice CX-5 with the HUD and ventilated front seats. We also have a older Mazda 3 hatchback that we love. I used to lease a 2016 CX-5 that was base model, I liked it, but thought it was underpowered.

I honestly don’t think I will be giving up my GTPE, for it’s flaws, it’s awesome. But, having a gas car as a bug out option, considering the DCFC infrastructure, I think is a must.

The Audi was a capable vehicle but it was a money pit. $1,500 for rear brakes after 20,000 miles, another $1,500 for maintenance, and another $1,500 estimate for front brakes - which is why I traded it when I bought the GTPE.

My other car is a Kia EV6 GT-Line. I bought that waiting for the Ford. The Kia is much better road car. Smoother ride, faster charging, and more efficient in range.

If you are concerned about evacuation, keep one vehicle at 80% . If there is a power outage, the gas pumps won’t work either. In a power-out situation, the Kia will provide 3.6kW of V2L emergency power for my home.

Keep the MME GTPE and get the 2024 Mustang GT 5.0 redesign…That would be fun and best of both worlds.

We have an M3 AWD, MME Premium AWD, and Leaf SL Plus - all electric.

We road trip frequently enough that I kind of wish we had got a Rav 4 Prime instead of the MME. I'm not as concerned about having ICE for emergencies but I could understand if for some areas.

Full BEV: My Mach E GT and my wife's Fiat 500e. (That's not my house, nor is this my photo, but it is our Fiat)

Obviously the ~80-mile-range-no-DCFC Fiat is not our road trip car, but it's perfect for city driving, really fun to drive, and cute AF.

As foe the tired old brought-to-you-by-big-petroleum-fear-mongering-what-do-you-do-in-an-emergency, let me tell you: I get into my car which I keep charged at home and drive away. I can easily go a couple hundred miles before needing a charge do unless we're talking about California sliding into the ocean or something (in which case I'd be dead anyway), I think we're good.
