When my car finally arrives in June (a guess - hands together, praying, hoping I didn't jinx anything), I plan on carrying the fob, but I will definitely set up PAAK, just in case. I was on the fence with all the stories about it not functioning properly or inconsistently, but I think this one convinced me to do it.
It's stable right now and if there is an issue it's most likely on the phone side/phone limitation

I keep fob #2 in a faraday bag hidden in the car. I can unlock with either the door keypad or FordPass if I lose fob #1.
I may go ahead and setup PAAK anyway. I’ve been hesitant because of my antique phone.

I can think of good excuse to get a shiny new phone :)

I keep keys 1 and 2 in faraday bags in a metal filing cabinet. I keep the F150 Lightning key in my safe. Key 1 used to go with me if I went on a longer trip. The F150 Lightning key is going to replace it. Since I use PaaK now, the only reason for me to carry the physical key is just in case of a break-down (I’m looking at you, Mr. Under-spec’d HVBJB). ??

What!?? Disney requires a locker now? Oh boy.. that's a bummer. (I'm so jealous. I was there last month watching the coaster go on test loops enviously)

As a side note, I rely solely on Paak these days. It's a bit slow on my phone(takes 5-15 seconds after pushing the door button to unlock) but it works very reliably. Between Paak, Samsung pay, and Utah's new digital driver's license I can now leave the house with nothing but my phone. Kind of amazing!

Recently added my BF's iphone 14 Paak and was shocked to find that it works almost like a fob. WAY faster than my 3 year old galaxy s20+
Anytime I hear the horrors of PaaK reliability I always think about the phone side of the equation as a primary suspect of interest. Ford tends to get the blame off the bat, but I know first hand how reliability went way up for me one year into MME ownership when I replaced my 6 year old LG V20 with a Samsung S22+ last year. It was a night and day transformation, and MME owners need to understand that when they go off on sites like this about how Ford is a failure in this realm.

That said, I personally am into leveraging alternatives for circumstances like gaining access to a vehicle. I've had phones spontaneously fail right in my hand without warning. Being able to fall back to a door sill unlock and console "login" even IF I don't have my Fob with me is highly desirable.

Agreed that motte than likely the majority of PaaK issues are with the phone or some combination of software on the phone making BT barf. ??

That said, I was using an iPhone X when I bought my car and my only real problem with PaaK was from when the idiot at FordPass support insisted I delete my PaaK from the car even though I told him multiple times that I didn’t have a physical key. When he got upset with me and said “just do it” I did it. Then he told me to start the car when I asked how and let him know I didn’t have a key he hung up on me. ??

I am using an iPhone 13 Pro now and have no PaaK issues to speak of. Most of my issues can be explained by the car being asleep and taking a few seconds (it’s usually less than a couple of seconds) to wake. No biggie. ?‍♂?

I have PAAK but my phone has almost died on me at times so I have used the door code and backup start code which is genius! Not having to have phone or key is such a great option.
100% this.

Definitely suggest folks setup PAAK, and also set the backup passcode and the door code.
Especially if you (like myself) plan to roll with just the phone, knowing that even if my phone dies, breaks, falls in a river, or whatever I won't be stranded is a huge weight off the mind.

Every now and then check to make sure your backup code is working. I checked the other day after an OTA and it wasn’t there. For now on I will check after any OTA

I use PAAK exclusively. My wife keeps the fob in her bag. When WE hit the road, we have both but I’ve never had to use it in extremis. Matter of fact, the only issue we had was forgetting that her bag, with the fob was still in the car and thus, the walk away lock didn’t lock. I only grab the fob when it has to go in for service (like now, for my cracked panoramic roof but that’s another story).

Yeah, there’s actually a cubby spot on the Tron bike to put your phone, so you can take that on if you want, but anything bigger you gotta put in locker. It’s free though and a cool system.

PAAK is pretty solid now. My biggest worry and why I bring the fob on long trips is if something wrong happens with the car and I gotta get it towed, then no one has a way to get in to it.
I use Paak. It's great.

But I have one of my fobs in a faraday bag hidden in the car for oh crap situations. Was invaluable when I had my junction box failure 500mi from home.

I use PAAK and my phone battery died last night while I was away from home. I was fine getting into the car using the door code, but when I went to start the car, I was never prompted for my backup code. In fact, my screen never turned on. Luckily I had a charging cord and after 10 minutes of phone charging I was able to start the car. Anyone aware of how to get your password prompt to come on in the car?

It's always showed up if I apply the brake and hit the start button as in trying to begin driving.

How do you test using the backup code? I just set mine up and want to test it?

go to your car without your phone in range and open it with the door code and then press the pedal and push start

Or you can just put your phone in Airplane Mode to kill all networking. ??
