If you mean the driver takes the MME out of state on a trip, then the Full Faith and Credit clause of the constitution requires other states to honor the CA rule regardless of its own rules. If you mean the person moves out of CA and takes the MME "permanently" to a different state, then the MME must have the license mounted in accordance with the requirements of the new state.

FWIW the CA requirement for a front license plate seems to be observed in the breach.
It was the first case. I always wondered how it works because I've heard some horror stories of some state troopers not knowing the laws especially with regards to visitors with Canadian Licenses or even those with international licenses.

Does that mean you if you get a ticket anyways you have to contest?

Usually for out of state license plates the state troopers are not that particular on such stuff - its a different ball game if the one existing license plate is not valid i.e has expired or stolen etc. But if its a legit vehicle registered and still valid out of state, they dont mess as much with the mounting stuff - at least thats my guess

If they mess up and issue a ticket then yes you would need to contest. That's always the case for any charge brought in error.

But usually it works the other way. If the ticket is contested the officer writing the ticket has to show up in court. Since no one expects an out of state driver to actually show up for a hearing, rather than spending the day at a hearing waiting for Godot, the tendency is just to avoid writing the ticket. Assuming of course they don't suspect something more than a traffic violation is going on.

FYI the ticket for failing to display a front license is like $30-$100, which may be the reason I've never seen a Tesla with a front license plate. LOL

I was told by a Ford dealer here in CT that you can request they not mount the front license plate, but they will make you sign a document releasing them of liability if you get a ticket. There's also the option of installing bumper plugs for those who receive their vehicle will holes drilled in the bumper.

Yes, I plan to insist that my dealer not install the front plate holder and I plan to go with Craig's Custom License Plate Holder. We've measured the Mach E and talked with Craig, who is confident his Universal Mount will be perfect.

When I was at one of the Mach E Tour sites, the purchasing manager told me they specifically order no front plates installed on any Mustang unless the purchaser specifically requests it. He knows Mustang drivers!
I was too lazy to look the link up for him Mark.. Hopefully he’ll see it. There’s a lot of info in that thread. The options are not limited to front license plate or a ticket.

Agreed. I wouldn't even call it something to "mess with", per se. If the vehicle is registered in another state and is just visiting or passing through, the visiting state's front license plate requirement doesn't even apply.

If you move to a state that requires front plates, you have to add the front plate when you register the car in that state, of course.

The bigger issue is whether one is really just visiting vs trying to get away with out-of-state registration after moving there. Many people from lower-cost vehicle registration states try to get away with continuing to register their vehicles from the previous state for years rather than pay the high fees in their new state. That they will try to crack down on.

Craig actually has a Mach-E version of this bracket on his site... Probably the same as the Universal Mount...

There are a lot of ways to comply with the front license plate requirements. If the bracket bothers you, your options aren't limited to the mounting bracket or a ticket. My build isn't until February 1 so there's lots of time for all the pioneers to figure this stuff out before I actually have to deal with it.

Just hire a driver and a car to always drive in front of you with a projector on the back of that car projecting the license plate ;)
