I just bought a 2023 CR! with ER and AWD; love it so far!

Can anyone tell me how frequently I need to do the maintenance (just do what the dealer says?) and the cost of a visit to the dealer for the maintenance?

When I signing my financing papers, the dealer's head of finance told me that he would basically skip the maintenance for a long time because it just isn't necessary. Of course, he's not in the service dept., but he seemed very knowledgeable. Opinions on his perspective?

Maintenance schedule is in the manual. A few visual inspections and tire rotation every 10k miles. The cost is up to your dealer. Some do it for free, some charge $20, and some will try to milk you for hundreds.

Some dealers took the time to configure an EV-specific service offering on their online scheduling. I’d prioritize those.

It's also in FordPass under Service Tab. Your dealer can charge what they want to. Ask ahead of time, and decide if it's reasonable. 10,000 should be $20 - $30. 20,000 includes an air filter that is under $20, so $50 max.

My 10K was $14, the 20K was $34. My 30K was about $50, but I had other stuff done (new wipers).

47,000 miles on mine. Just replaced tires for the first time. $1200 (Hankook ion evos). Did a few tire rotations along the way (around $20-$25). Put in a new cabin air filter myself ($15). Wiper fluid myself. That's been it in almost 3 years.

Oh, $1000 to replace a cracked windshield, but that's just by chance, not normal maintenance.

Maintain as car maker recommends is my advice, not according to somebody talking out top of his head blowing smoke up your ass.

Then move to UK.

Servicing here is 2 years unlimited mileage!

Problem for me is that’s 60,000 miles.

Not happy with that whatever maker says so despite my advice to you it goes in every 20,000 miles?

Ford main stealer, $100 for a cabin filter change, so that's 20 for the filter and 80 labor!

That’s why it’s advisable to call ahead. I wish Ford provided three year free maintenance instead of points.

Thanks to everyone for their insights! Maintenance costs for the MME certainly are very low; gotta love that. Between lower car payments $3300 (compared to my 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV), fuel savings $1200, and reduced maintenance $1000 (hard to estimate), I'm going to save more than $16000 over the next three years!!

Save $80 and watch a 2-minute YouTube video. Takes as long to replace the filter as it does to watch the video.

If you rigorously use 1PD or Regen, you may rarely use the actual service brake, leading to a sort of brake atrophy. There's lots of threads here that detail how to exercise your brakes so they will last a reasonable length of time; however I believe that it's still worth considering a severe service kind of schedule for them, paying a visit to a good technician at regular intervals to be sure the brakes will be in top condition should you ever really need them. This is all the more important if driving in winter conditions as corrosive road salt and brine used in snow clearing operations can play havoc with the binders.

Spend a little to potentially save a lot?

It’s the preventative inspections, casting an expert watchful eye over the car in places we can’t see as drivers, checking and applying soft recalls and software updates is where the value is.

Don’t look at what you’re paying, look at what you’re getting though you might need that pointing out ?

He is right. Our 2021 GTPE has local garage that checks undercarriage when they do my tire rotation every 5000 miles. I slip him a $20 since he is honest and does a nice job everytime. He charged me $100 to mount and balance my all season switch when we bought it. He has several tesla customers and the GTPE is his first and really likes it. Find someone with good reviews and honest. Dealers will take you to lunch. I avoid them if I can.

Keep a car like us for 10 years or more and the savings is incredible. Sold our 2006 merc milan premier in 2021 when we got the GTPE with 111000 miles looked new spotless with every maint item done. At 100k cost me $1000 brake flush, trans fill, raditor flush and timimg belt plus complete check. Car sold one day on auto trader. Sold our 2011 kia optima sx 104000 miles in a week in may when we got our 2023 Model Y AWD long range in a week. Same maint completed at 100k. Now we have our 06 Jeep Commander 7 seater 50000 miles like new. If we pull the trigger in Jan after our test drive in a model x AWD long range it will sell in an hour. All 3 were great cars with very few repairs. I am alway proactive in maint.
