To be fair, there was at least one interview published with Ford’s charging director (I think it was on State of Charge), and he stated on camera that we would have to buy the adapter after being specifically asked. Buying them was the plan for long time. But apparently Farley ordered a change to complementary fairly recently. Those that said it wasn’t going to be free were reiterating the facts shared by Ford employees at the time. Can’t really blame people if they were told wrong, or if the plan changes last minute. It was not speculation.

EDIT: Found the timestamp:

Meh...when that interview came out, my take was that he didn't really seem to know much. While he didn't correct Tom, he didn't confirm it either.

He said they will be available for sale on the Ford Accessories website, which is still a true statement. Earlier in the interview he said something to the effect of "available for delivery to owners" with regards to the rollout.

I've owned my car for 3 months 5000km and start my first"real" road trip tomorrow. Driving through British Columbia it really looks like the chargers I want to use are all CCS chargers, near restaurants etc. Many are on the Flo network, or On The Run, and are reported as reliable. Some seem to top out at 50kW, but I don't like to wolf down my food too fast at restaurants, so I think that's ok for me. The Tesla Superchargers in BC seem to be in slightly more remote locations, near nothing, or just near fast-food places. But, British Columbia is rather special that way.

Superchargers around here can also be quite expensive, up to 80cents/kWh (Canadian) for non-Tesla vehicles.

So, although I'm going to love having the option to use the Superchargers, it's not looking like they will usually be my first choice around here.
Once BC Hydro and BC Utilities Commission get their act together, we will pay per kWH and not per minute, as we are doing right now.

So, the shipping will be free. To quote Farley "We'll cover cost of shipping." Any idea what the cost of the adapter will be?

In his first tweet, he said complimentary. The second tweet went out 4 hours later and said "We'll cover cost of shipping". Queue the lawyers when they charge for the device. This is so like Ford. Marketing says one thing, accountants veto it and we all end up wondering what the hell?

Huh? First tweet says complementary adapter. Second tweet added to that says free shipping too.

Where are you getting "backed away"?

40 years of dealing with Ford. That's where.

I know everyone everywhere sucks equally, but god damn if Tesla owners aren't such f-ing pricks.

If I had a penny every time I've seen a Tesla parked but not charging, a Tesla owner not knowing anything about CCS charging, or a Tesla charging at a CCS spot - I'd have enough money to buy X (since that's worth like $2 these days). If they want an "us-vs-them" attitude, I'd better not be seeing any Teslas at any CCS chargers.
