Ford makes money from people using the BOCN. What is their motivation to give us an alternative that bypasses their revenue generating network?

Maybe they will, because we can do that already with EA. But I am not expecting it.
Yes, I fully expect Ford is getting a slice of every kWh run through BOCN. It's the reason they are giving away complimentary SC adapters to all of us, which is fine.

I'm not saying BOCN itself is terrible, but the fact that they are limiting our options is terrible.

I would prefer they launch the adapters now to anyone willing to use the Tesla app.
And if you prefer BOCN, then you just have to wait while Ford updates their software to do it.

and wait

and wait

...
I'm guessing the software will be ready before the adapter.

The fact that we haven't seen test vehicles at superchargers makes me think we still have a bit of waiting to do.

It's curious that Ford didn't confirm that Superchargers will be Plug & Charge with MME and Lightning. BOCN has P&C capability already and we can just run this all through our current payment method with Ford.

That said, I completely understand why there's a strong opinion out there that they'd rather just have the adapter and leave the Supercharger activation/payment method to the Tesla app.

That’s what I figured, but I was never exactly sure. What a coincidence it was my photo.

Jeez, a string of assumptions were made on scant information and now everyone wants to crap on Ford as if they're evil geniuses trying to take over Gotham.

We don't KNOW that ONLY BOCN will work; the exact quote is: "Ford Model E spokesperson Marty J. Günsberg confirmed in an email to InsideEVs that Ford owners would be able to use their FordPass app and BlueOval Charging Network account to access Tesla Superchargers."

That quote doesn't explicitly preclude using Tesla's APP. Even if it turns out that you can't use Tesla's app, so what? BOCN charges the same rate as the charging companies, and it is currently free indefinitely - so who cares if you can't use the Tesla app?

Even if you are compelled to use BOCN with the FREE adapter they gave you, it seems very likely you could go out and buy your own adapter from Tesla and use their app directly - which may be dumb, but you still probably have that option.

Will Ford make owners pay more to use BOCN than going directly with Tesla? It's not unreasonable to think that Ford will give owners the same treatment using Tesla as it does with Electrify America.

Ford's BOCN will not allow MME owners to link their EA membership to Plug & Charge on our cars. The result is that owners must choose to either pay extra for using BOCN's P&C feature or disable the feature in order to pay less $$ via direct activation with EA.

Wondering how this will work in Canada, given there's really no BlueOval charging network options. Maybe this will be the first one!

Oh boy!
Such a deal. Especially considering how reliable FordPass and all other Ford technologies are.

You can join BOCN in Canada. Plug and Charge is unavailable, however.

Continuing your example: you have the choice of using the EA APP with your EA account that has the 25% member discount, or use BOCN/P&C with the regular rate. OK, that's a little inconvenient to get the 25%, but it works. That doesn't necessarily mean anything because the deal in question is between Tesla and Ford, and none of us have any idea what the fine print on that contract is.

Since we have no idea of the details, maybe we should wait until we find those out before we start lighting torches and sharpening pitchforks?

My question would be: does it work with a Tesla app?

We are likely to install a Tesla level 2 shared charger (the only universal level 2 charger on the market) and the only way to activate is through the Tesla app. I’d like to pay for one app if possible.

not mentioning anything about Plug&Charge is saying a lot about Plug&Charge.
I think Tesla does not yet support ISO 15118, so they cannot support P&C for non-Teslas. They are probably using the EVGO Autocharge+ technique, read the MAC address of the car.

That’s a reasonable assumption.
