Hey Guys, way back in 2021 I remember forum members posting how they were managing thier home cables from their chargers. I recall one guy having a "spring loaded wheel" type of mechanism. I'm curious what are you all doing for your cords to keep them neat and tidy. Is there a down side to keeping the cord on essentailly a "spring loaded hose reel"?

Feel free to send me pics of your system. Please refrain from sending me pics of loose cord loops on the garage floor with one loop draped over the charger wheel; I can see that at home in my own garage!! ? ?

Thx

I placed bicycle hooks in the ceiling. I strung the cord along the ceiling and loop it on the last hook. Easy to reach and drops right down to charge door on Mach. Just unhook the loop to charge and loop it back when done. Simplistic but totally out of the way.

It's 2024, as the kids say, "pic or didn't happen".......

So the "holder" on the chargers are just place holders. None of the chargers use that to trigger any electronics or lights on the charger? Just asking. I have a Juiec Box and pretty sure it's is just a holder.

My EVSE is shaped so that it’s easy to drape the cord over it and not have it in the way of anything. It’s also old as heck and dumb. My pneumatic hose is on a spring-loaded reel. ??

Steve, you have had your car about as long as I have, maybe longer. Has the spring Loaded wheel caused any damage to the cord? I think that's what I want to do. Can you shoot me a pic? Thx

So... We have two EVSEs in the garage. One for my MME, and an old one for my wife's Volt. Unfortunately, she's got an illness that for the time being prevents her from driving. For short distances, she uses crutches, for longer distances, a wheelchair. Most days I'm parked nose-in, and use the OpenEVSE charger you can see on the left, behind the air compressor and ancient fridge.

But the night before one of her medical appointments, I back the car in so she can get in the passenger side more easily. The cord from my charger won't reach. I have an extension cable, but it's a pain to hook up and unhook. So, since her Volt's not getting used much, I hooked the extension up to her charger, and ran the extension overhead, so I can plug in easily with the MME backed in. Meanwhile my charger's cord will reach the Volt when it occasionally needs a charge.

Works like a charm, and gives the garage that vintage knob-and-tube look to go with the fridge and the floor fan.

I went the first year with storing the cable wrapped over my EVSE and running it across the floor when charging. It was a bit cumbersome and a trip hazard. A few weeks ago, I rigged up an overhead system using a vinyl coated wire and some hardware. I thought that it would be easier than finding studs in the ceiling and using hooks. With this setup, I only have two eye hooks, one on each end. I did have to install a 2x6 on one end as the studs were not in the optimal location. During the planning phase, I ran the cable across a ladder and down and realized that the EVSE cord needed to be just a little longer. After researching options, I decided to mount my EVSE close to the ceiling and use a 3 foot 50 amp extension cord. The EVSE cable is tied to the vinyl cable every two feet with cushion clamps that are held closed with zip ties. The cord is almost 8 feet up from the floor so there is plenty of overhead clearance. When charging, the cable hangs so that there is no up or down pull on the charging port. When not in use, I pull the string attached to the cable and hook it on a clamp as shown in the pictures. I tried using one of those cheap tool balancers from Amazon but even the lightest one available put too much upward tension on the charging port for my comfort.

Correct. Haven't ever reholstered one of Juicebox cords ever. Handle goes in a 5 gallon bucket

Looks like you got pics of a few examples close to mine. I do like the one with cable guides on the garage door guide.

Rich, that spring loaded reel is for one of my air hoses. It’s held up well over the years, but it’s definitely not my L2 EVSE cord. I just drape that over my EVSE. I have had that thing since I had the Fusion Energi (2014). ??
