We have a '23 Ford Mustang Mach-e and looking at purchasing a Rivian R1T later this year.

In order for the R1T to fit in the garage, we need to move the existing JuiceBox charger. In its new location it will reach both vehicles easily in the garage.

As I see it:
Pros to 2 chargers:
- Can charge both EV's at the same time -- how often will we need this - I don't think very often.
- Backup if something happens to one of them

Pros to 1 charger:
- No expense for 2nd charger
- Less cables laying on the garage floor

Does anyone here have 2 EV's? How often are both EV's charging? What are the pros/cons?

I have a MME and a Mod 3. I just move the handle to the car that needs it. I'm installing a solar carport in the next couple of months, it will be set up for both cars.

It depends on your usage. My wife and I both have EVs, and it has not been an issue so far. My commute is about 20% and another 10% on kids activities. She is about 10% commute and 10% kids activities so plenty of time to charge without issue. Sometimes, on the weekend, we both need to charge, but with a 60 amp, it charges pretty quickly.

We have a juicebox 40 that we use on the MME and the OEM Ford portable charger we use on the BMW i4. The Ford charger died after 12 months and we got a new one under warranty and the service dept mgr said the new charger comes with a new 3 year warranty. So why not use it?

I have 2 EV that I have been charging for over two years with just one EVSE on a 30a circuit, so 24A charging.

I have never wished for a second EVSE or for anything with more power.

If I had a time of use electric plan or one or both of us had a driving pattern that used 80% or more of the batter every day my desires may change.

My wife plugs in when she gets home from work, I unplug her and plug in my car sometime before bed, in the morning both cars are charged to the desired charge level. Every day.

I have 2 EVs , 2 chargers, separate circuits, and charge both cars most every night, staggering the charge times so they don’t overlap. Either charger can reach either car.

Another option would be 2 chargers on one circuit using load sharing. Saves the cost of a second circuit. If I had it to do over, I’d opt for the single circuit load share option.

Would it make more sense to install a dedicated 20amp 120V outlet for the backup system? Or use the Level 2 Juice Box on EV #1 M-W-F and EV#2 on T-Th? Use the 120 V 20amp outlet on the days/nights the EV isn't reserved for the 240V level 2 outlet? We don't know how many miles a day the vehicles are used, the amp rating of the service line going into your home and if you have free slots in your breaker box?

I have three EVs, two garages and two chargers, one in each garage. My trucks (R1T and Hummer) get charged every other day, and the charger cable reaches both of them easily. My wife's Mach E gets plugged in every day that she drives it.

Thank you all for the responses.

We both work from home, so we don't put a lot of miles on either car. Based on the responses, I think we're going stay with just one charger/EVSE, however, since we have to move the location, I'm going to have 2 50 AMP circuits run, so, if needed, I can add a second EVSE later.

2 EV household with 2 Wallboxes, not necessarily because we need both, but mostly because my husband is a geek, and he set up load balancing and other home integrations stuff with them. If you tend to leave at the same time to go to work, and live in a wintery climate, having 2 chargers means both can precondition in the morning, which I see as the most likely need for 2 rather than just one.

That's probably a good idea for now.

I had this same question a few weeks ago when my wife upgraded from her 21 Ford Escape to a Mach-e and we traded in my daughters Jetta for a Chevy Bolt EUV.

I have a Model 3 so I already had my wall connector set up. Had we just gotten my wife the Mach-E we probably would've kept just the one Tesla wall connector and shared between us, but with my daughter's Bolt I decided it would just be easier to install a second charger then deal with the logistics of musical chairs with the charger. I installed a Tesla J1772 wall charger that now my wife and daughter share. Luckily they don't charge but once a week and it's staggered so there's no fighting for the outlet.

I would go with one hard wired unit and a 14-50 receptacle. Just my opinion.

MME and Prius Prime. One charger can reach both. MME gets driven the most but rarely charged more than twice a week. Prius gets charged almost every time it’s used.

Depends on your situation. If you can keep both charged (without encroaching on on-peak electricity prices, if that applies) you only need one. I have two, but only because my Lightning came with the Ford Charge Station Pro. I’ve never charged both vehicles at the same time.
