Why does my Ford Connected Charge Station report kWh usage that is much higher than my total home electric bill?

I'm trying to calculate my actual electricity cost to charge our Mach-E. I am looking at the Charge Station data in FordPass under Insights. For the previous month, it is reporting 577.327 kWh through the EVSE, yet my last electric bill for the entire home shows only 452 kWh roughly the same time period. Is the FCCS really that inaccurate or am I missing something?

I've never seen anything like that in my Fordpass. How do you get to Insights?
It would be more accurate to get that data from the app with your evse since it would include any loss during charging.

Because the data is garbage. Mine once showed more than 1000 kWh in a single day.

Because Ford can't do software.

It's even more innacurate on the Charge Station Pro. That is why I don't use the Insights information and rely on the Emporia Vue 2.

This is how FordPass reports the data as it is connected to my FCCS. Under Account it is found under Charge Station then Insights.

That sucks. I would rather not have to pay for an additional device to monitor energy usage. I mean what is the benefit to buy an expensive, connected EVSE if it can't even report this simple data accurately.

your billing date was 4/15, the meter was read on 4/12, so your bill reflects usage from 3/13-4/12, not 4/1 through 4/30
I understand that the 30 day periods don't line up exactly between my bill and the FCCS month, but it's obviously not even remotely accurate. My average kWh for the entire house over the last six months is 439.98 kWh. The average reported by the FCCS over last six months is 578.49 kWh, which is 31% greater on average than what my entire house uses per month. Obviously the data coming out of the FCCS is shit.

Two things:

1) The time period shown for the utility bill is different than the Ford Connected Charger. Utility bill is from 3/13/24 to 4/12/2024, but the Ford Charging is showing the entire month of April. You really should only be looking at the first 12 days of usage.

2) as others have said, the Ford app is a bit suspect when it comes to reporting usage. You might want to look into a whole-house energy monitor like an Emporia Vue 2 or Vue 3 if you want to get a more accurate view of things.

That additional monitoring device can also monitor other things in the house, not just the EVSE. Yeah, it sucks that you have to buy something to overcome the crappy app's energy reporting, but it also gives you a lot of insight into how the rest of your house is using energy. You can even monitor solar production/usage.

how many miles do you drive in a typical month, and do you do all of your charging at home?

The Mach-E is driven about 1,340 mi/mo and we 100% charge at home.

So our panel uses Eaton breakers that have that single white neutral wire that connects to the bus bar. So do the sensors go around that white wire on the circuits I want to monitor?

Well, at 3 miles per kWh, that would be 446 kWh used... If you somehow got 3.5 miles per kWh, that's 408 kWh used. Sounds like the amount reported is actually semi-accurate...

Those sound like AFCI breakers. The CT sensors would go around the black or red hot wires, not the white neutral.
