Do we have an emergency door release if 12V battery dies?

Rear door inside latch incident: Daughter #1 drove the Mach E for the first time. Next day I drove the car with Daughter #2 in rear seat. As we exited the car Daughter #2 said the rear latch would not open the door. No problem, we opened the door from the outside. I went back to the car to check out latch operation and entered rear seat and closed the doors. Shit, I just locked myself in the rear seat and cannot get out. I tried unlocking with Ford Pass, nada. Tried lowering windows with Ford Pass, nada. So my choice was to crawl to the front seat, or open the rear hatch with fp. I exited via the rear hatch.
OK, time to read the owners manual. The manual showed the location of the child lock button on the left door and it was on. I also discovered I had not enabled the window open option with fp. I had never used the child lock and it was ON.

No, but we do have a user manual that answers this question. (Hint.)
EXACTLY! I firmly believe that 50% OR MORE of the questions asked here would have not been necessary if people would just RTFM! I mean, it's one of your more valuable purchases, wouldn't you like to know everything there is about it?
There was a stupid ass story on the Today show about how a couple got "locked" into a Tesla because the accessory battery died and how it was such a "danger"...Of course, then they later went on to say "It tells you exactly what to do in this case IN THE MANUAL". The amount of fear mongering is like nothing I have ever seen lately, and about everything..

I had an issue something like this except I didn't lock myself in. It turned out I had accidentally turned on the child safety lock which is designed to prevent a child from opening the rear door or winding down the windows. After turning that off the problem went away.

Well, maybe, but I don't understand the reason for rudeness. If someone is not interested in a discussion topic, they should not bother about it. Nobody's perfect, and even if we do our homework and read the manual from cover to cover, sometimes we miss information, sometimes the information is unclear or not clearly explained, and sometimes we read a translation of the manual that isn't perfect either. A person who asks a question in good faith deserves a respectful reply. After all, the main purpose of a discussion forum is to help each other, isn't it?

As someone who has had their 12v power totally die on them in the car when I was in the car let me tell you this, I didn't even notice anything different getting out of the car. First clue that something was wrong was when I was walking back to the car I noticed my grill cover were still open and the mirrors had not folded back in.

That child lock is always to blame when my kid just wont get out of the car (usually because, bad hair day, daddy said no, failed math test, or something along those lines). I have to go open the door and show her it's still not 'on'.

It’s stuff like this that keeps newbies and esl users from wanting to interact with real people online in an attempt to learn or figure something out. I’ve seen it on too many forums. Especially the more technical/“pro” forums.

Sure, there will always be the self-entitled who will throw a tantrum because everyone must eli5 every single thing to them, but there are those who genuinely need help with understanding or figuring something out, often times before purchase or in an emergency. Those people don’t deserve a “rtfm” or “hire a professional” or “study up/take a course on this” or “just google it” type of response, because obviously the person asking had difficulty in finding/understanding an answer via those methods, or they’re looking for a second/third opinion/confirmation before going with whatever answer they came across. That’d be like apprenticing side by side with a chef who’s more experienced, asking them for suggestions/input on spices and flavors, only to be told to check the food/cuisine section of their local library and “read the freaking books”, because that has all the information they need. You’re asking a human to help you because obviously you need it and they, with the knowledge and capacity to deliver in short exactly the kind of the help you need, is standing right there next to you. Same goes for online forums. And obviously were not talking dumb questions like “how I can make my car go fast” or “how to tow my stuff” with no explanation on what exactly that even means to you or what vehicle you’re driving.

I’ll go further to say it’s questions like these that actually bring up important issues to the forefront and make resolving issues quicker/easier for people in general. Things that otherwise might be buried in a poorly constructed footnote among other topics when all you need is that specific piece of information, explained more clearly/concisely, and readily accessible on demand. OP obviously isn’t in an emergency situation, but was concerned in the event that they might be. Others may actually be in an emergency situation and for some reason can’t pour through pages of technical data or have access to the manual/ability to find that specific information in that particular moment.
Questions and answers like these go a long way in helping others who are actually facing difficult/stressful situations, because someone else asked and answered at a time when they were not facing a difficult/stressful situation.

and please don’t say “if you’re really in an emergency, dial 911”.

Then of course there’s the benefitt of promoting more healthy/civil/human discourse online, which, even basic questions like these does a great job at encouraging when asked and answered appropriately. No one would be using the internet if it was just another dead encyclopedia with hyperlinks to pdfs and pages of manuals. Some need help understanding more than the bare text explains, and that’s not the time to tell them “rtfm” or “pay up and educate yourself at a university”. They need human help, and are looking for a human response to a specific issue, not a full-blown education on everything else plus maybe that.

As for the reply criticizing the method of answer, yeah, l tend to prefer reading than watching because it’s much faster to glance over a page than to load and skip around a video, but why criticize the answer if it’s not misinformation? of course it’s much easier to just type out “yank handle harder a couple of times, see manual for more info”, which means this guy obviously put more time and thoughtfulness into their reply, going as far as to not only find a video demonstration of the procedure, but even giving the exact time stamp for that specific piece of information.

what’s to criticize there when the person answering simply went out of their way to be more helpful/thoughtful than they probably had to?

I don't understand why everything is answered with videos these days. I guess "pull the door handle a couple times" was too much to type?
well when you consider how few people actually read manuals of anything now, much less a car, a vid is the ideal way to get to people.

NBC ran a story this morning that you could be locked in if the 12V dies. Tesla apparently has a door release that will open the door if battery fails and you are locked in. Story was related to excessive heat. Does Mache have a release somewhere?

This is something that I do wish Ford would address with either a service call visit (for free because it’s a defect!) Or some sort of software update that can bypass a dead battery with the app or with some key code combination on the door.

Our daughter drives a Subaru and got a “trade up“ letter in the mail the other day. I have not read consumer reports or Edmonds, but the Subaru EV sounds pretty darn good and fully loaded at 51K? That’s a killer - better? You bet it comes with a 12 V charging system and access to the 12 V battery. Wizard.

Hopefully Ford will learn by the time our lease is up because quite frankly the MME is much nicer than the Subaru

You don’t have to pull the handle a couple of times, just pull it all the way back and it engages the mechanical release. It just doesn’t activate the presenter. The doors als have super capacitors in them and will function electronically a couple of times after the LV battery is dead. ?‍♂?
Interesting about the super capacitors Steve. Do you know if the back doors have them, or just the front doors? I got a bit curious and looked in the manual and it talks about a double pull for the rear door handles.

"OPENING THE DOORS FROM INSIDE YOUR VEHICLE
E-Latch [that's a hyper link in the manual linking to the video where the single pull in front if battery dead is made clear, as you point you]

Pull the interior door handle twice to unlock and open a rear door. The first pull unlocks the door and the second pull opens the door."

It's not clear to me whether that rear door double pull is in the event of a dead battery or is the normal. Frankly I don't think I've ever been in the back seat of the car. Someday I'll have to check it out, and while I'm there I'll check whether the ? proof locks are engaged or not!

regards to all

I do generally agree that I don't like 'video answers' or posts where there is nothing of substance written, just a link to a video.

I like the forum because it consists of written words - sometimes I'm just scrolling in between things at work, or in a line at a grocery store, or just winding down for bed, and in these cases, I really don't want a 'video answer', and will usually just skip over that response.

This is from the Ford Mach-E repair manual under "Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems":

"Each door latch control module has an internal power backup, allowing the door latch release to function for approximately 20 activations or 72 hours after, a power loss (such as a disconnected or depleted battery)."
