This is not the first time Ford have been in this situation. In December 2006 I ordered a Focus CC3 (the hard top convertible). My delivery date was supposed to be April 2007 but they found a problem with roofs seals which were leaking so they had to dealer fix those that had been delivered and stopped production until they had new ones made. I eventually took delivery in the September. The only reason I knew what the problem was because my dealer had 2 that needed retro fitting. Then there was the more recent problem with the Kuga PHEV. Although this didn't directly affect me Ford were still cagey about the problem until they knew that is was a supplier issue and not theirs. If I have a problem supplying my customers with the product that they have ordered I'm upfront with them and I expect to be treated with the same respect. Ford, I'm afraid, are losing that at the moment. Not enough, yet, to pull the plug but I am keeping a close eye on things. I am prepared to cut them a bit of slack because given the situation I think they have done a not half bad job.I am still optimistic that things will be done and dusted soon.
Agreed. What are they worried about... itā€™s not like their share price can drop that much more anyway! Just let us know what it is, fix it and letā€™s get going.
However, Iā€™m not sure Iā€™m going to be happy waiting any longer than May for delivery... not when I ordered in January last year and have already had to extended my current lease. I canā€™t extended it past June. Iā€™ll probably have to look at another lease... maybe on an ipace or e-tron, and maybe see you guys again in 24 months... hopefully with a GT!

Are you sure you can't extend your lease by a month or 2? That's now loss to them and surely can be negotiated. Hopefully though this is something that we shouldn't be even contemplating!

In the end they compensated those who bought the kuga hyrid for the expected loss of not being able to charge it during the fixing period.

I would be more worried about the mache issues if it's anything battery related. Lack of heat pump issues etc

I dont care about seat issues as that's not new technology. Love the car so far just need a bit more of a feeling that i'm paying top dollar for it with no incentives so need lots of "executive" feel re customer care and contact.

Does anyone have any photos of a RWD that isnā€™t computer generated? All reviews seem to be AWD or FE.

Iā€™m worried the unpainted bumpers and wheel arches are going to look really ugly in person.

I wonder how much it would be to get them painted.

I can always ask, but the first extension was offered without needing a new contract etc... just an informal extension, which was offered purely because of Covid, I didnā€™t even request it... so I got lucky. I can cancel at anytime with 1 months notice, but the lease will end after 6 months. If itā€™s looking like Iā€™ll slip to June, Iā€™ll obviously ask for an extension ??

No shipment details yet

But seeing some US posters they are have production dates in Jan already with shipment dates

Are UK orders on a different priority? I would understand why, US is a far bigger market

You placed your order on the 31st Dec right?

So that confirms your car was built to someone else's cancelled order and allocated to your new order rather than someone who had pre-ordered well before you!

exactly right! good memory

I was surprised how quick my status changed (one week after the order) and it showed a prior build date ... not that it has changed anything because it has sat in production since!

Correct Nick's is a black SR RWD

Probably prebuilt in a batch of 30 ? And then reassigned to Nick

Maybe no shipping date until they get x amount of UK orders on the one boat before a shipping date shows up?

I've reread the UK thread and can't see any shipping dates yet from the UK crew (may have missed it if someone has mentioned it)

We never actually knew how many UK pre-orders there were. Nor whether there was a finite UK allocation of the first years production. it was clearly never fully taken up. Also whether Ford were just going to build a selection of the limited model range and colours in RHD in an initial run and if orders were not confirmed ship them as demonstrators and cars for dealer inventory.
What we do know is that they appear to have started building UK cars before the order window opened and that the take up was slow so that those who had not previously pre ordered were able to obtain early build vehicles. I have not heard if anyone has tried to order a first edition and obtained a pre order cancellation as I know the original pre orders was closed.

From what I understand FORD and/or FORDUK took a bit of a gamble. Mine and a few others where built before the confirm order email was sent out. My thinking was that they thought the uptake would be fairly decent. My understanding is that it wasn't which is why some people have ordered late and have got quicker build dates. With most Ford cars the dealers order a car for a demo model, don't pay for it for a few months and when they have to they can sell it as an ex demo. With the MME the system is different. They have to lease the demo for a monthly fee so it doesn't belong to them so they can't sell it. The dealer has to pay for our cars when they are shipped so unless they want to take a gamble the only cars that get delivered to the dealer will be ours. The gamble is if they keep a customers cancelled car having paid for it that they can sell straight away. That's a lot of money to have tied up. Could be one reason why none of us have been informed that our cars have been shipped yet. They are waiting for maximum numbers. Time will tell.

With that business model there must be a substantial profit margin to the dealer to take all those risks. A monthly rental fee for demo cars and potentially being landed with a Ā£50k car if the buyer cancels! The margins might be better than what we initially thought.

It sounds more like turning the dealer into some kind of franchise rather than a partnership with Ford.

I dont think they are waiting for x amount of cars before shipping. I think shipping was delayed after finding the (secret) defect.

I don't think there is that much of a margin which is why it is a gamble for the dealers. It is why only certain dealers are even selling the MME and not ALL dealers. Those who preordered but haven't yet confirmed will be hearing from their dealers soon to commit to a confirmed order or risk it being cancelled. Most dealers are independents who sell Fords. If they wanted to change brands they could.
