Now asking me to leave the vehicle. I’ve left the usb plugged in and FDRS laptop still on. Will give it a few minutes.

Well after all of that. 50 mins or so. Nothing looks different and APIM still on the list. So I’ve unplugged FDRS and re plugged in the USB drive. It’s going through the update again. Gonna leave the car longer this time.

Would it really kill Ford to simply push these updates out and let us just have them in a timely manner?

No but it might brick your car. Ford is working through this cautiously. Even so, some cars seemed to have been bricked in the process. Would you rather have fast or careful? Both does not seem to be an option.

Ford needs to work on their testing of software updates before releasing them normally for starters...then they can work on their testing of pushing them out OTA...

Speed, quality, cost….you can only optimize 2 out of 3!

This!!!

You guys must remember that if you take your car in for the customer satisfaction today they will attempt to flash the exact same that we did over the weekend and the technicians will experience the same issues and the same things will break.

It honestly blows my mind that they can't test stuff.

At a minimum if the abs will break BC without doing the IPC they need to have that notice in FDRS when you try to program the ABS...forces it to do the IPC too. We don't know if this is true yet but I suspect it might be.

FDRS does do that already. If multiple modules need to update together, it will automatically run them one after another.

The ABS debacle may apply only to GTPE, no ABS change for the other trims so far. However, it might be generally cautious to hold off on any MME FDRS updates until this situation gets fixed. I'm guessing by midweek, if not later today.

Also, these discussions are good to warn two-day FDRS subscribers to hold off for now.

I wonder when and how the FDRS / MME update teams get notified that something has gone terribly wrong. If they need the feedback from service departments, they are possibly just hearing now, or may not yet have heard there is a problem. Or, maybe they get some soft alarm if too many updates are failing.

This is what I’m worried about. I don’t have a GT, so I don’t think this update will apply to my car, but I’m concerned about having it updated. Thankfully I don’t have an appointment for 2 weeks, so hopefully it’s fixed by then.

You'd think it does...but it only does it for the PCM and the rest of those 5 modules. It didn't used to do that either, that was added more recently. I have a sneaking suspicion the ABS and IPC need to both run to make BC not break...but thats a suspicion and not confirmed.

See this blows my mind. They should not be able to fix software for critical vehicle systems in a week. There's just absolutely no chance. If they can it shows what they're doing wrong. Every change in a critical software system should require meticulous and specific testing over a number of weeks. This isn't a "oh crap I screwed this one line of code up let me change it real fast...ok here you go push it".

As much as I want a fix now I hope they take their time and do it right to avoid situations like this happening again.

My guess is this ABS update applies to all trims, however depending on your build date depends if it breaks anything. If you have the driver monitoring camera and active BC - I believe it will break then. Older trims shouldn't have an issue. I should look at some more VINs to confirm but I'm lazy.

All good points. Maybe the short term fix is to just have FDRS put back the last working version as an update (if that is possible). IMHO, there should be a FDRS way to go back, without needing 3rd party Apps.
