We just bought our first ev. I did a lot of research in what we wanted. We got very lucky and found a 21 premium awd LR that we love. One thing that I did not check was the charging cable that came with it. I didn’t realize until we had it home that there wasn’t a 14-50 adapter in the bag. The previous owner must’ve forgotten to put it in. I asked our ford dealer that we bought it from and the found the part number. Just the adapter is $250. That’s almost the cost of the grizzl e system I’m looking at. Even on eBay used ones are over 120$. Any luck finding one at a better price? It’s such a small piece of the mobile charger.

Thank you. That’s much better than what ford told me. Much appreciated.

Yeah, the Ford Mobile Charger is known to be temperamental. It tends to injure itself when used for extended periods at 80+ degrees F. You are better off getting a dedicated unit mounted in your garage. If you feel like you are going to need a mobile unit, there are several that are more economical than the Ford unit and are more reliable. I’m still eyeballing the Tesla Mobile unit since I have a Tesla to J1772 adapter already. ??

And… out of stock until the end of May anyway. Is there a thread on those? We are looking at a grizzl e or emporia. Getting the 100 amp sub panel next week in the garage.

Check your electrical utility company - some of them give rebates for specific chargers.

push the Dealership to get you the 240v pigtail that *should* have been included!

I've used mine since day one to charge my '21 Select 36k miles, and wife's BMW 330e probably close to 30k.... so I think its been perfectly reliable.

Mount the charger on your ceiling. Your next EV could have the charge port in a different corner of the vehicle.

The Emporia has timing issues that causes Fordpass app and the MME to display a charging error. Looks like Nebraska has EV incentives ($500 off a ChargePoint charger) so would go that route: https://nppd.energywisenebraskagoev.com/residential-incentives/
We are in Lincoln and LES is our provider. No rebates through them. But our rates are like $0.055 a kWh until May when they jack it up to $0.072/kwh. So it’s nice that we get low rates.
I’ll have to look at the threads for the emporia charger. Great to know.

I would love to push them. But we basically stole this. They accidentally put the price of 24,750 but didn’t adjust our trade in. So between the trade in and tax credit it was about $4,500. It’s just crazy how much they wanted for that adapter.

well.......
I like having a nema 14-50 outlet available for emergency generator and other 240v tools in garage, so I prefer plug-in over hard-wired.

that being said, I'd go for a plug-in, and set to 32amps max for safety.

$400, how can you go wrong ?!

Can you explain what you mean by this? I guess I have not read much up on issues with Emporia's EV chargers but I have two in my garage and have charged multiple Mach-E's and Teslas over the past 2+ years without any issues whatsoever. I generally have them set to charge only on excess solar but during the evening they will use the PowerWalls or the grid depending on time.
