- 2021 Ford Mach-e GT
Porsche also promised OTAs for their Taycan. It was big part of their marketing campaigns. But in practice it is even worst than the Mach-e's OTA. No module can be updated by OTA. The only thing that is OTA is map updates and some Infotainment apps like the Weather and Calendar app. They had a couple of very important software updates to roll out (recalls and serious fixes) and they asked every owner to visit the dealer. In several cases, the update process was failing even at the dealer, connected with a wire to a computer and a 12v supply, leaving bricked cars at the dealers' lot waiting for several weeks to receive module replacements from Germany.
I heard that Polestar had its own share of problems with their OTAs.
It feels that all these companies overpromised and underdelivered. They underestimated the complexity of OTA updates and it is likely the current (first) generation of their EVs will never have Tesla's OTA capabilities. One thing these companies could do to satisfy customers is to offer those updates for free during the annual dealer visit.
