It is a little different than that. Before the update there is a high chance of being stranded or even having a tow truck damage your battery pack. It's a little more urgent in all fairness.
It most certainly is, but all recalls state the problem and the future date when you can get it fixed. It is obviously absurd it is a problem in the first place, but the fact that SO FAR, Ford is meeting their timing in the letter, when most people were assuming the earliest we'd see software was end of July/early August, I don't see how we yet fault them - FOR THE SOFTWARE. I'm with @DevSecOps and others that agree this is still yet a band-aid, but they are living up to their notice and did get the band-aid out relatively quickly.

Got my letter today. According to Ford, this is all dealt with if you just enable the OTA. I wish the adults in the room would step up at Ford. Like I said earlier, this likely was known and not disclosed which makes me question their quarterly reporting to the SEC. They still are not admitting the scope of the problem.
Just now got mine as well.

My dealer's tech guy just said they're re-rolling out the OTA starting on the 18th, expect to have it out to all cars by the 21st. Said Ford is concentrating on getting the software out to everyone, they haven't talked about a hardware campaign yet, but he thinks they will fairly soon.

Go read your car's emergency towing procedures before you need to use them. I learned that lesson last year with a '21 Powerboost that the 12V battery died on while driving. Everything quit and the trans went into park and parking brake set.

And I couldn't read the owners manual cause I had no power (owner's manual in Sync).

I had no idea how to release the gearshift to take it out of park. It was not pleasant.

Neither was the three hour wait for Ford's roadside assistance response but that's another issue completely.

Go read you owner's manual to find out what you might need to know before that day gets here.

Sounds like he's guessing. The OTA has already been rolling out for at least a week, and there's no way that all cars will be updated by the 21st (if we're talking about July).

I'm not really sure if you're complaining to complain or what? The OTA update has been timely and is actually ahead of schedule. Ford said they would start deploying it the middle of July but it has been going out for over a week, I believe.

The update queues mean they need to upgrade their servers...? No, it is waiting for the proper circumstance for your CAR to be ready to receive the update. The staged roll out is because problems happen, but you're in the tech space, so you should already know this.

It seems your issue is more a problem of just wanting updates as soon as you hear they're available and wanting it immediately. If that is the case, then yes, you have to go to the dealer or do them yourself, like those of us with this urge.

the downsides of text communication… I ask and post because I’m probably not the only one with the same thoughts and questions. I’m not one for debates, just one to look for information. I appreciate replies from those that know more than I do. Text communication lacks emotion and body language so things can be mis-construed. I’m mainly asking with an optimistic attitude. Bottom line is it would be nice to have more communication from Ford Corporate about what we can expect coming up for our vehicles, similar to how Nintendo has their “quarterly” directs and Apple’s annual events. Also better educational info or portal on how OTAs work. Most people probably don’t care so the info isn’t there but I care. I’m just a nobody in the. ?

Paragraph 1: it’s more a first world problem than a real complaint. One example I can think of. I’m confused what’s taking so long for my car to get the new Sync version so I can have the Apple Maps EV charging feature. It’s been out much longer that the recall OTA’s existence. I’m not going to go looking for the date it was released but I know it has been a while. Why haven’t I at least gotten that OTA update? If it has taken this long and I still don’t have the sync update until another two months from now, does that mean I have to wait for the recall the same amount of time that it took to get the sync update? Are we on 4-6 month rolling cycles? I’m not the only on the forum wondering why they aren’t getting updates.

Paragraph 2: What circumstance does my car need to meet to get the update? I drive more than 20 mins each day and it is on Wi-Fi at home daily. Ford should be more transparent with ETAs for OTAs or communicate that they can’t update my car because of XYZ reason. When my company puts their updates out, they make it available to any that want it and those customers understand no software version is perfect and they are allowed to upgrade their production environment at their discretion. Apple is a huge leader in software updates. Using them as an example, when they release a new iOS or MacOS, they don’t make iPhone 11 users wait 3 months while the iPhone 13 users get all their devices updated first. I get that Apple is a software-first company where as Ford is a car-first company. I’m in the camp that everyone should have the option to down the OTA on their schedule.

Paragraph 3: I’ve waited for the Sync update long enough.I had to go get my GWM updated to fix my Blue Cruse Hands-Free functionality. I’ve seen since that update that another GWM is available for my VIN but Ford hasn’t pushed to my VIN. The whole OTA timing issue that others like me have seems to be the classic problem of how to eat an elephant. If it is a bandwidth problem, send the module updates as their are released and have quicker transmissions to the car instead of larger Power Ups that can take days to download.

My opinion on these matters is simply my opinion on how things would seem to work better, not necessarily the correct opinion. But I think the questions are valid, even if the answer isn’t what I want.

Yes, this was a main point I may have failed to make. None us read every sentence the same way. @agoldman hit it succinctly.

Got my letter today as well. Went and checked and I didn't have OTA updates enabled. Enabled it and then did a refresh. No updates yet.

Really don't want to have to go into the dealership to get this updated.

It did, indeed. He's ex-Tesla, though, so may have been reading tea leaves. Much more scientific, that.

For a major recall like this, is it possible for Ford to send one update
It most certainly is, but all recalls state the problem and the future date when you can get it fixed. It is obviously absurd it is a problem in the first place, but the fact that SO FAR, Ford is meeting their timing in the letter, when most people were assuming the earliest we'd see software was end of July/early August, I don't see how we yet fault them - FOR THE SOFTWARE. The only reason I’m going to the dealer instead of waiting is I make day trips frequently over an hour away to a small town. I would skip the dealer appointment if Ford could just send a message in FordPass that says something short and sweet like “Your car is scheduled for an important OTA update. Your scheduled update will arrive the week of {InsertDateFromDatabae()}. Run the update at your earliest convenience!”

As others have stated, Ford has room to improve communication to its customers in different aspects.

Simply because Ford doesn't have it together ... It doesn't work for anyone.

Does anyone know, if this issue impacts certain types of cars more than others, GT vs select, AWD vs RWD , normal battery pack vs extended battery pack

Also, I am facing same problem in Ford pass. Says there is a recall but when I click shows no recall.
Same. Beautiful ford software.
I got a letter today regarding recall for my car. Ford is still better with paper.
