I'm going ahead with the recall - I had bought mine just before the Pro was announced, which was slightly annoying to be honest, and the slider latch has never worked particularly well, even after 12+ charges and a little silicon dielectric lube.

That said, I do appreciate the cost of programs like this - I'll make it up to them by continuing to tell people about the product, and next adapter of whatever kind I need I'll buy from them. I do think they are good products - they were out to market early which is a risk, but I hope it still pays off for them in the long run.

If they are asking for an order number, that's not going to be possible for me.. I purchased mine 6 months ago and the paperwork is long gone.
Before anyone else gets snarky, I erased the original email with the order number. I have a phobia about being a hoarder. I did register on their website and the order number appeared. Someone gave me constructive advice.

10,300 units recalled, that's like $2 million down the drain for this almost pointless recall. I feel bad for the company and the CEO, they've been great so far.

To be clear, they have to recall them because Tesla was bitching the latch will hold back "only" 107 pounds of force after 10,000 cycles (which is about 1.5 million miles of charging) instead of 170 pounds of force. Not sure about you, but I don't plan on trying to yank out the connector with 170 pounds of force (who comes up with this?) while actively charging anytime soon. Tesla was also complaining because the adapter surface temp might get a whole 10ÂşF too warm after passing 500 amps (or about 200 kW @ 400V) for a whole hour straight. Boy, too bad I'll never get the chance to barely burn my finger after taking on 200 kWh of charge in an hour, that would almost be worth it.

Again, my personal opinion is the V1 A2Z adapter is perfectly safe and doesn't need to be recalled. My only gripe with is the latch is sometimes difficult to engage.

I'm going to keep mine to save them some money. I don't think they deserve this.
This.

If people are upset, they need to direct their ire towards Austin, TX.

Many more of you probably just got the same email (and might even beat met to posting as I type this).

Looks like A2Z is recalling the V1 CCS to NACS adapters with an exchange program.

There's more to it too, with some instructions and eligibility info, but that's the main detail. It eventually points to here: https://a2zevshop.com/apps/vep

Video explanation

I asked A2Z whether I would be without adapter for any period of time, and they sent me a vague response:

"
To facilitate a seamless exchange process, the return of the old adapter and the shipment of the replacement adapter will be handled separately. We have thoroughly planned the exchange and recall program, ensuring that inventory levels are adequate to prevent any disruption in service. Replacement adapters are scheduled to begin shipping as early as Monday.
"

"separately" doesn't describe whether they will be sending me an adapter before I send mine to them or not. I kinda think by "separately" they mean they'll send me the adapter before I send to them?

They did (of course) confirm the exchange is at no cost to me.

I expect they've already made the adapters; I'll send mine in.

I just got an email that my exchange request was completed, with a new order number. I logged in the A2ZEV website and it shows up there. I'm assuming it will be like my previous exchange. They'll ship the new one and then I ship back the old one.

I agree with you. I can’t help wondering why they really care what Tesla is saying though. According to Tesla the adapters aren’t really even allowed anyways. Unless they are hoping for some future agreement or contract.

Given some of their statements on Twitter I would guess they are trying to get official endorsement for their extension cord.

i just received a similar email (and another email that says "approved" just before it) and the new adapter looks to be shipping out soon™️.

the website status for the v1 return says "canceled" but the first email today says to "Please prepare and return back the listed item(s) in order to proceed to next step." so we'll see what comes next. my guess is a shipping label for the return will come with the new adapter; i can't believe NHTSA would agree to them leaving the old ones in circulation as part of the recall.

Thanks for posting this as I did not get an email yet.

May need an adapter for an Xmas road trip.

Now I get to see if my ford adapter and/or the A2Z come in time for my trip.

I got one of the last V1s in July 2024 and while I manage to use it few times on a road trip I was a little peeved that they shipped me the old one.

Took a picture of the v1 and a copy of my shipment notice and order # and it looks like the will process the replacement.

Just submitted my exchange. The locking mechanism in V1 is crap and barely works half the time whereas the Tesla/Ford one has been almost flawless.
The V1 locking was almost impossible to use the first two times
(had to jam it against sometime to get it to click locked)
and I ended up using some silicone spray.

If got much looser after a few uses.

So in retrospect I can see how it may eventually not lock properly.

Last Thursday evening I initiated the return process. Other than receiving a confirmation e-mail with the exchange number EX000527, I have not heard anything more. Is this the case with everyone else who is requesting an exchange?

My number is a few light of your number, and I am in the same boat.
