Am I the only one?

I’ve had this car for 2 1/2 years. I’ve never had this issue with any other car I’ve owned.

But I just can’t figure out how to park this dang car straight within the lines of a parking lot!

I don’t know if it’s the weird sloping and bumpy hood or what. But half the time I park, I’m nowhere near straight and even in the parking spot. ?‍♂

I turn on 360 degree cameras every time, I use the screen more than looking out windows, lines up perfect every time.

You are not the only one and I also turn on 360 each time I pull into a parking spot just so that I am lined up quickly.

And it becomes a self profiling prophecy, without 360 cameras I used to learn my cars dimensions and how to park well, with them on both cars I dont bother, I dont learn, I just rely on the tech and if it didnt work I would just park elsewhere. In 20 years the only people who will be able to park are the old school antique car people.

It may have to do with the seating position vs the height of the front hood. I share your experience as well.

Assuming you’re in USA, looking at the front upper edge of the driver side headlight helps a lot. I usually just align that to position myself and then make sure the front hood of the car aligns directly with the curb I am facing to check whether I’m fairly parallel to the parking lines to the either side of me.

This car does not want to park straight. It's weird because I feel like I'm straight and I'm really not. Without the 360 camera I'd be toast. 20k miles on it. The car is also just footprint bigger than it feels? And something about the steering ratio at low speed? Seems like a combination of things.

I had kind of a similar problem in my Porsche Cayman, but the Cayman was different. Driving it felt like a well made glove and I always knew exactly where the car was, but the car really really didn't want to go backward. That is, it had not very good rear visibility, and with the manual transmission and stiff clutch it was always a bit of a wrestle to accurately move backward. Not to personify overmuch, but I think it just felt embarrassed and sad to have to pick up groceries, it really wanted to be on an open road, the whole backward thing just made it sulky. I would apologize every time I had to put it in reverse, over time we both got along. Boy did it love going forward though.

Yeah I agree with this, seat position with the long hood that doesn't slope sharply makes it feel like a bigger vehicle than it is, but since you're actually sitting not that far off the ground it throws off your judgement.

Also echoing the other responses, just use the 360 camera, makes it effortless even compared to other cars I had no issue with that didn't have that kind of technology.

I use the 360 every time. Yet another reason Tesla was always off my radar. And no I wasn’t going to pay $12k just so the car would do it by itself

Because of the 360 degree camera, this has been the easiest vehicle I’ve had to park.

My 2006 Mustang GT is harder, it doesn’t even have a backup camera and is a pretty long and wide car considering it’s a coupe.

Well, funny you should mention.

I have parallel parked double deck buses, long coaches, have articulated (semi) vehicle driver’s licence, never had a problem parking anything EVER and yet with the ‘Stang with mirrors the size of wardrobe doors, bleepers, bingers, bongers and 360deg cameras it often takes me more than one go at getting between the lines squarely

I put it down to the shape.

Small price to pay, though, for a car that’s the dog’s dangly bits!

A friend has a difficult egress from his house into an alley, also where a neighbor parks a boat on his property but right next to the alley. I scared the heck out of him backing up without 'looking where I was going'. He ran out to help me - I showed him the 360 degree camera, we both got a laugh out of it. It is really helpful in tight places. There is a very steep up-ramp out of the parking garage at my big-city condo. I always worried about someone with a stroller and kid. The 360 sees the up-ramp and flashes red, but the camera shows it is just the ramp, and I can see any pedestrian Great feature.

Its why Tesla all have destroyed rims and wheels, really hard to park. Heck my select even self parks, although I have only used it twice.

They say the first step toward recovery is admitting you have a problem.... ?

But seriously, since they don't operate at speeds exceeding 5 mph pretty much the entire purpose of the 360º cameras is parking, so yes, I use them very frequently, including every time I park in my garage. I love the dotted lines superimposed on the 360º view as they really help to line up evenly in a parking space.

Yeah I think all my cars before this had some fixed point I could line up. The curves and how the hood drops and angles don’t give me a fixed point.

I honestly have only been using 360 backing up.

Will probably have to start when pulling into a spot.

It just seems silly. I feel like I should be able to park a car at this point in my life!
