Good afternoon,

I just took delivery of my Mach-E on Saturday, and I had a few questions maybe someone can possubly answer for me, or point me in a direction.

My MME is a Standard Range AWD, Garage kept (Temp Set 55°F steady) but my range is 140 Miles at full charge, which is roughly 84 miles short of the EPA estimated range of 224 for the Standard Range AWD.. also to mention, I have not moved the vehicle or altered the environment so it is safe to assume the vehicle entirely is matching the temperature of the surroundings (55°F).
Surely I don't think it being 15°F under the preffered operating temp of 70°F would account for the nearly 84 mile loss of range.

While waiting for Delivery, it sat at the train port for roughly 5-6 months at an unknown battery level. Could my battery health be damaged? I would think the chances are low, but they aren't zero.

Thanks!

Reset your driving history so the car can learn your environment and how you drive. And lower your expectations for winter range, especially in Alaska.

Oh no definitely, it doesn't have much history at all, being with only 100mi on the odometer. I just didn't expect a 35% range loss with a 15°F sub optimal temperature in a controlled, heated Garage environment! I expect to see a very degraded performance which is why ICE vehicles are my preferred travel during the winter when it's -30°F. ?

It just doesn't sit quite right.

It’s basing its estimated range on the conditions of your previous drives, not your garage temp. Which makes perfect sense because you won’t be driving in the garage.

Yes, the cars get a considerable range drop when it gets colder due to the battery chemistry. I have found my guess-o-meter is about 25%-30% lower than in the summer.

Preconditioning can help greatly for range.

Drive way more miles to get a more accurate read.

Did the OTA update to improve distance to empty get installed ?

That makes sense, I didn't even think about that lol.

Thanks for the reply!

Maybe they have a huge garage. You don't know.

I assume it got all of the updates, as I took delivery this past Saturday. The updates page has nothing and states the vehicle is all up to date. I'm curious to see how it performs and I may do a 100 mile drive tomorrow at -20°F. If anyone is curious, if I end up doing this.. I'll post the results and what ever other information requested.

Mine is likewise in a heated garage, 50ish degrees, 90% charge, 140 mi GOM, 22 GT. Have been driving my ICE rig as I am driving around town for several hours and just do not want to find out how that would be in my Mach at -35F.

It has the history of all the drives before you bought it. Just reset it.

Dealer doesn't do updates unless they are mandated by a recall or hold. If you are going to drive 100 miles at -20 in an SR, make sure you know where the nearest charger is. I would expect that to use about 85% of your battery. Start out with 100%, and set a departure time to precondition the battery.

In addition to your history, it will also look at the outside temp in your area with connected data.

It will be very important for you to plug in to a 240V charger as much as possible in those temps so the battery stays warm. Heating the battery will increase the range.

Should probably also note, the Guess-O-Meter doesn’t really care what temperature your garage is at. It’s trying to predict based on the weather you’ll be driving in. It knows if it’s cold outside and the temps that your past drives have been in. The heated garage will keep your battery capacity up, but the car still knows it has to go out in the cold.
