Already did, never got a response. It remains ridiculous that's the only way to get them to respond to anything, though.

Hope it works -- might need the industrial strength version. That door has a heavy spring.

This is one part of the car i wish they would change. The door latch is finicky. You can't just flip it closed (at least on mine). I have to stop and apply just the right amount of pressure to get the lock to catch. Opening it can also be quirky. If you press too hard or too quickly nothing happens. Why this should be any more complicated than the door for a gas tank is a mystery to me.

Plus one - I have been having the same issues you describe from day 1! Let's re-design this part, FORD!

Has anyone had this fixed by their dealership? I assume it's not (easily) user replaceable.

I went in about 2 weeks to get it looked at. Parts are coming in next week. Not sure if they are replacing the whole assembly or just the lock mechanism.

Just tell your dealer that and ask if they can buy from that dealer.

OK, received the part, installed it, which is just a quarter turn, and it fits perfectly. Latches and unlatches just like the original!!!

Supremely grateful to @MTORRES7 for making this discovery. The BMW part is identical to the Ford's. Mine got broken off when my wife was backing out of the garage (the warning message is very subtle, if it's displayed at all when the car is in reverse - this message really belongs to the main screen as it's where people are looking when they are looking for the surround view, not to the small driver screen. The most likely occasion when the pin may break is when the car is backing off). The replacement by itself takes only a minute, but finding the right part, as @MTORRES7 did, is a needle in a haystack!

Thank you very much for sharing your finding. I purchased the part for ~ $20. Earlier this morning, the Ford dealer asked me for $439 before tax ($113 for the part + $326 for labor).
