After our 3-yr ownership period, the "connected services" finally expired. We've decided not to pay the subscription, as we seldom use the hands-free BlueCruise feature (lane-keeping is fine for us with the hands on the wheel).

Part of the "connected services" from Ford included periodic nav updates to the built-in maps (also, seldom used).

What I found somewhat cheeky is that the maps seem to have reverted back to their original, factory version once the subscription expired.

I know this for a fact, because we live in a new street that wasn't built 3 years ago. The nav updates over the past 3 years have added the streets in our neighborhood, and I was able to see our home on the built-in map.

However, once the subscription expired, all of the local streets disappeared and the maps database seems to have reverted back to its earliest version.

I must say, a pretty lame duck move on Ford's part.
It's not actually Connected Services that expire, it's Connected Built-in Navigation.
Connected Services is the portal where you manage the various subscriptions.

There's a static map that comes with the car. Connected Built-in Navigation enhances that capability with live data (traffic, more and newer map detail, etc). Without that subscription, you just have the static map.

I don't have the subscription either, but I never used the Ford nav anyway. I use Android Auto.

While I certainly understand offering a subscription service for connected navigation (that is, use the latest information via cell networking), I do have to wonder if the built-in base map can be updated. This would seem to be quite important given that cell coverage is not available in 100% of places (also an issue with Google/Waze, etc if you don't have maps downloaded).

This would seem like a simple option to offer (at least when one already is a subscriber).

I recently renewed Nav with my points. I also renewed BC on 1/3/24 using the $600 3 year option. Part of my reason to renew was based on Ford's promise to upgrade my BC 1.0 It's now over a year later and the best they can do is offer free renewals. Really Ford?

I have to wonder if there are actual hardware differences. It is just software you would think that would be easy to push out. If it is hardware, then they should either have an upgrade kit they can put on or not promise this upgrade.

I have a 2021 purchased July 21 with BC 1.0. Just checked and the only options for BC is 1 year for $250, 1 month for $49 and 3 years for $300.

"Connected services" and "blue cruise" are two different subscriptions.
