My purse was stolen and in it was my Mach-E key fob (and iPhone, etc). Thanks to my Backup Start Code I was able to get home.
A replacement key is $300. Then it has to be programmed, which takes 1-1/2 hours and costs an additional $225, for a total of $525 for a replacement key fob. Gone are the days when you could go to the hardware store and have an extra car key made for a few bucks.

bummer.... yes, I was shocked at what Ford wanted to change me for a second Fob, and I never got one.

after I got PAAK working, which took a while and several attempts in the early days with an old Android... PAAK has been pretty much 100%. I do turn off Bluetooth on the phone when I am home so that my MME can sleep soundly in the garage

I have my (one and only) Fob wrapped in foil hidden inside the car....
- in case phone dies
- very occasional valet parking
- very occasional drop off at the dealership or tire store

- because of the potential for what you went through, some buy a 3rd fob before the need arises, and programs it themselves. I bought an OEM new fob for under $60, then programmed it. Never lost a key ever, but the cost is such that I wanted protection.
Great tip, thanks. I'm ordering the F-150 key as a backup. Always good to spend a few dollars to insure away a risk.

I bought a third key for my car. The idea was partially that in case I lost a key (which I’ve never done in my life, being the child of a hyper-paranoid master locksmith) I could just buy a key online and program it myself. It requires 2 keys to program a new key to the car, so having 3 is hedging against a loss. ??

Of course, the real reason I got the third key was because it was an F150 Lightning key and it has a frunk button. The geek in me needed that extra button. ??
Philisophically I'm of the opinion that if you get a third and program it yourself you'll never need it but I'm paranoid so I have 4 but the third and fourth only cost $70/each so hopefully I'm set for a long time.

Mine cost $28 and I programmed it myself in about 2 minutes. Much less expensive to do this before you lose a key, rather than after.
Where did you find a fob at that price and a procedure to program it?
And if you lose your phone, remember you need to undo PAAK ASAP as well.

Since I don't use a keyfob I never have a fear of losing it.

2021s only came with one fob. I did this before Ford offered a second one.

The key came from eBay. Looks like you can get them for $23 now.

The programming procedure can be found in any of several youtube videos. Some are linked in this forum, or you can just google. The procedure is very easy, but you have to have two programmed keys to use it. That's why you do it before you lose one of your keys.

Thanks! I just went through something similar when my daughter lost her 2nd Prius key fob, then found it right before I was going to have to pay big bucks to get 2 new ones. I was able to buy a blank on eBay and rent a programmer. $23 now is quite a deal by comparison.

LOL I also don’t use the key. I have also never lost a key in my life. I still got a third key. Mostly because I wanted that frunk button on one. ??

You should be able to get a second one for free at this point. I thought there was a CSP for that. I was able to get the second one for my first MME. The used one came with two.
