Its no different than a gas station.

And that doesn't make sense either, because you can set it to only recharge $5 at a time. So a $20 charge they'd end up making up to 4 charges to your card for $5 each.
yeah, it's more likely that part of their business model is very short term day-to-day investments on the deposits on hand. pretty common to do that kind of thing.

Electrify America is still having issues as far as I can tell. I ran into an area (Paso Robles) with 4 out of 6 plugs unusable. Called Customer service who suggested I install the Ap, I did, and still could not use the charger. Felt like a waste of time.

Tesla owner here -- not a troll, my wife is very interested in the Mach E thus I'm gathering intel. In some Euro countries Tesla is, I hear, being required to share a portion of their Super charging network with other brands. Some noise to that effect here, except of course for the Tesla proprietary charger connect. Believe me, if they do, you will be very happy.

Looks like Paso Robles uses the older units which are systematically being replaced with more reliable chargers.

This reviewer was hogging the Paso Robles EA station for a few hours to get up to 100%.

Just returned from a 10-day trip Denver-to-Las Vegas. EA was great. 12 charges, very few problems. And good speeds.

I did not use Plug&Charge. Had it turned off. I'm saving my free kWh from Ford until next year when it should all be working better. Plus I wanted to use EA Pass+ rates.

My first 2 charges in CO, I couldn't get Swipe-to-Start to work in the EA app. I had to call EA and they had to manually start the sessions. But they couldn't see anything wrong on their end. So while waiting during the 2nd charge, I uninstalled the EA app and reinstalled it (Android). I already had the latest version, but it was worth a try. That fixed it. Wasn't a problem with the car or the chargers, just something that didn't install right on my phone. After that, every charger in UT and NV worked perfectly.

1. Plug in, wait for "Connecting to Vehicle" to complete
2. Open the EA app
3. Select the station (already showing on the app by GPS location)
4. Select the charger#
5. Swipe-to-Start

On the return drive, I did have a problem at the Glenwood Spring charger. Tried them all and an error appeared every time trying to Swipe-to-Start. Had to call EA and they manually started it. Then only got 32 kW speed (my only slow speed of the 12 EA charges). But it was only 38F outside. Might have been part of the problem.

Otherwise, I was averaging about 95 kW for all my charges. And that was usually charging between 30%-80%. I was playing it safe by leaving enough juice in the battery to make it to a backup station in case there was a problem. I was still usually getting 80kW+ even at 79% before the 80% cliff.

Overall very pleased. Never had any charger fault out once started. Just had a few issues getting started, but all but one was just a bad app install, not a car/charger issue.

So the big question to me is if you guys think you'll keep the MME at home for these trips and keep using the Escape as originally planned or if the change up to the EV cadence is worthwhile?

You mention swipe to start. EA doesn't allow you to pay through the app? If not, what about contactless payment on the change station?

It just depends on the route. If there's good EA coverage, we'll likely take the MME. Otherwise the Escape.

Since EA added a charger in Green River UT, that enabled the Denver-Vegas route. A year ago that would have been a problem.

The slower cadence has it's pros and cons. In our younger days, it would have really annoyed us to take this much extra time to stop 2-3x more often, and have to pay for hotels. But in our 60's now and retired, we have plenty of time to kill. Definitely something to consider for a person's own situation though.

By Swipe-to-Start, I mean Swipe in the app (not swipe a credit card). See the image below.

Some stations also had NFC working, but many didn't. I did use that on one station. Tried it on two others and both said it wasn't working on that station. So I just stuck to the app's Swipe-to-Start-Charge.

The credit card reader would have worked too, but that would have been at regular rates. I wanted to use my Pass+ discounted rate.

1st time using EA at camarillo, california in the outlet malls. a dozen or so stations just 2 miles off the 101 freeway and a panera and burger place right across the way along with plenty of shopping

pulled in around 25%, grabbed a sandwich and salad, and 30min later i was at 80%. actually only needed an extra 10% but i figured i’d let it do it’s thing while i got a bite.

had set up connected services when i first got the car. knew i had the 250kw ford credits.

had also downloaded the EA app just in case, but did not set up a separate account.

literally just plugged it into a random open station in the middle (150kw charger) and everything worked.

so for me plug&charge worked on the 1st try.

So plug in then start the station is the best practice? This is what works on my Etron.

In other threads it is Start station then plugin.

If all of the stations weren't in use with another person waiting, is it really "hogging"
