FordPass 5.0 Released

Thanks for answering all the questions so far @thecodingart ....

Before I update to FP 5.0, I am wondering if it will work properly with my (non-updated in a long time version 4.5.4 Sync) ?

I turned off OTAs in the car long ago because I did not see anything in the release notes I really wanted/needed and I got tired of all the 'side-effects' that started coming along with OTAs...

If functionality works in the current FordPass 4 app, then functionality should resume in FordPass 5. There are no OTA requirements for aligning with FordPass 5 functionality (that I'm aware of). There are definitely OTA requirements for fixing bugs and broken functionality with anything interfacing with the vehicle itself though ?.

I hope they add trip planner back in soon that is kind of a big feature to leave out. I would have held off updating until it was put back in, I use that feature a lot. Too late now I updated and can't go back.

I'm not able to consistently get the location of my vehicle. I did get it a couple of times. Now when I select the location that now says "vehicle parked" nothing happens. I haven't been able to figure out how to refresh the app like you could on the previous version. Any ideas?

There's no manual app refreshing because the way the app works is different than prior. The app will always have "live" data provided by your vehicle. This area will basically show what the vehicle has last reported at all times.

Think of how the Tesla app works or other OEM apps (if you've used them previously).

Under the hood, there are some major major improvements. The UI changes will be a bit YMMV, but the reliability, speed and responsiveness updates should be night and day. There was sooo much we wanted to do but couldn’t due to what’s already out there. We absolutely pushed for the best we could do given our existing limits.

We all were very cognizant of the forum complaints and issues — internally we had the same issues and complaints.

This has been a loooong time coming. Heck I remember my initial pitches for it which feels like a lifetime ago.

I sure would like to get a chance to try it, but yet more Ford mysteries, in this case who gets it and who doesn't.

Confusion here regarding the fan button. Are you saying it starts the car and/or starts the climate control? Not very intuitive. I am at a remote location, 500 miles from my Mach e, and I just accidentally pressed the fan button, not knowing that it started anything. Did my car and/or climate control just start? How do I tell? Will whatever I just turned on shut off after the 30 minute shutoff period?

Mostly, what I can say is that it works in a similar fashion to Tesla and other vehicles. The vehicle itself is sent a signal to "wake-up", once the vehicle is away a connection is established directly between the app and the vehicle with the vehicle reporting live information.

The prior application didn't receive "live" information per se, thus stale data was displayed all the time. The recovery mechanism would be pull to refresh like behaviors to force the app to attempt to get the latest data.

Unfortunately, this became a common habit for something that shouldn't have had to be done in the first place ?. Now, WYSIWYG.

Given the correct vehicle permissions and the vehicle + app both have appropriate connections to cell/wifi, on the home screen you should be able to navigate to Location and view your vehicle's last reported location on Google Maps.

How often the vehicle sends its location data is up in the air (other's can probably test this).... but the app will show the last reported location at that point in time.

Installed FP 5.0.0, restarted the phone, deleted user data, deleted the cache, rebooted the phone, uninstalled/reinstalled the app... And still the old design!!! What am I doing wrong?

...as long as PAAK continues to work reliably, I'll be happy.

someday, when Sync version control includes update/rollback to known stable snaphot versions of all modules, I'll update. The only functionality that would entice me though would be embedding CarScanner so we could create 'custom dashboard' displays on center console.

No idea, but is this iOS or Android? I would report the issue to Ford. Detail out the OS, device, app version, if you were a beta tester prior and so on.

I have no cell service but good wifi. Is that the problem? The previous app worked with just wifi.
