I am trying to understand the guessometer, but it makes no sense to me.
I own a 2023 Route 1 which is supposed to get a range of up to 310 miles.
I have never been able to get the Guessometer show more than 280 miles of range.
I recently drove across two mountain passes and back for a distance of 120 miles each leg.
Both ways it showed a battery usage of 35% and and an average 3.7m per kwh.
That seems to make sense, in fact it even seems better than advertised.
Now I charged it up 74% and the guessometer gives an estimated range of 168 miles, which is ridiculously low.
Any ideas?
Maybe you should consider a tesla for your next vehicle. Their system appears to be to set their GOM to near epa range at 100 percent, regardless of driver history, to make the owner feel better.

I am no fan of the GOM, but i prefer an attempt at determining my range, not an epa range based on 40 mph freeway driving.

Reset your driving history.

The GOM on my honda ice is also wrong and hilarious, although it overstates more than understates like my mache.

Hey some of us on occasion have driven 30-40+ miles after a fuel light comes on and have self inflected range anxiety.
I've done 75 to 100 miles. But it was in a Prius that got 45+ MPG. and I knew the gas tank held at least 2 gallons in reserve when the low fuel light comes on. A very calculated risk done after lots of experience with the car. And a couple of "oops, actually ran out of fuel" situations.

more valid value is what your mi/kwh is. The GOM has earned it's name.

Does anyone have actual info on the algorithm the GOM uses? In my last EV (a BMW i3), it would use the consumption over the last 18 miles to calculate the remaining range. It would also adjust (if a destination was set) based on altitude and to a far lesser degree temperature (the temp adjustment was reflected more in the mi/kWh measurement - if it was cold, the mi/kWh was lower).

I'm asking mostly out of curiosity because there is a lot of mis-information about it learning your driving habits. Ford contributed to this with their "Intelligent Range Estimation" pilot a couple of years back. Not sure if that's been fully incorporated into updated software or not. In any case, I'd guess that a simpler model of using your recent driving (50 miles? 100 miles?) consumption coupled with some altitude adjustments would be pretty accurate. I can't see how looking back at hundreds or even thousands of miles would be more accurate than the simple approach.

One last thing. We pile on the GOM, but ABRP is great. I had a trip of 270 miles with at least 8k ft of gain, and abrp got the estimate exactly right (to the percent). Coming home is was about 2 percent off. Abrp has my distance and route, but so could ford nav.

Great estimation can be done...

Trying to figure out why the GOM is so far off recently. It's showing only 1.7 and my lowest has been 2.7. Any idea?

I would say until the air conditioner gets caught up inside the car because you’re using 33% for climate, mine usually does that when I first get in the car and takeoff in the hot summer. It’ll stay around 1.9 for about 10 minutes and then it’ll go to about 2.7 2.6. I decided to charge up to 100 today, what I hate is it shows this many miles soon as I drive out of the driveway. It goes to 240 lol

Just treat it like your phone.
When needed, just go charge it up.

Be happy and enjoy life. :like:

I've come to the conclusion that people just want to be lied to. They want the GOM to simply show EPA range regardless of reality. They want elevation changes to not affect range... they want speed to not affect range... and they want temperature to not affect range.

It must suck to be a GOM engineer... all that work to come up with something that can be quite accurate...but that is not what people want.

Thunderbuck makes a great point regarding grades. If you drive across mountain passes frequently, I recommend trying to calculate the % regenerated going downhill. Kind of a fun intellectual challenge - I think. My MME can regen about 50% of the energy needed to travel up the grades I drive.
