As an owner of the least efficient spec of the Mach-E (SR Premium AWD)I have been wondering what I can do to maximize my range for road trips in the summer outside of the usual pre-conditioning, fully charge, etc. As wheels and tires seem to make a big difference on range, I thought this would be a good place to start. I have seen reviews of EV specific wheels from Fast Wheels but they don't seem to offer a version that supports the Mach-E.

I have looked around the forum and can't seem to find a thread that focuses solely on wheels that offer the most efficiency for the Mach-E. Is anyone here familiar with some options that may be worth looking at?

For pure efficiency, the stock wheels on a Select with aero covers is hard to beat, unless you have a GT-PE (since they will not fit over the bigger brakes). Aftermarket, there is nothing yet. I’m still waiting on a 20x9 with reasonable aero and half-decent ventilation. Alternatively to that, I wouldn’t mind a 20x9 that has crap aero and great ventilation but also a good set of aero covers. Re-thinking, I think my preference is for a good wheel with removable aero covers. ??

I would think the CA Rt1 wheels with aero covers might be as well given that the CA Rt1 has the longest range of all the Mach-E's.

I am also interested in this and agree with Steve that there are no good aftermarket options available yet. It seems that rim manufacturers in general are still focused on the big volume of ICE buyers who don't care about aerodynamics.

I found a really good study on rim design and the impacts on range, and I posted about it last year. here is the link: https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...r19-tires-on-stock-19-wheels.4500/post-169647

Basically, good rim design can improve your efficiency by up to 10%. Or conversely, switching from the stock MME wheels can hurt your range by up to 10%. As others have noted, some MME rims are better than others. I think the GT ones look pretty aerodynamic, which is one reason I am very unlikely to change them.

Thanks for the detailed information! I was also listening to a video by Engineering Explained that is discussing something very similar.

Rotiform makes some wheels that have detachable aero covers. I’ll hunt down a link.

wow, I LOVE the look of these wheels! I'm curious to know how much they improve efficiency.

*edit* It seems that the wheels are somewhat heavy (27-30lbs) and that's before before the aerodisc cover. I will do some more research to see how they compare to the stock Mach-E wheel weight.

Other than the weight of these it's the first time I've seen some aero wheels that I felt were pretty cool. I could definitely see some black ones with the red gloss center caps. I'd be inclined to get the 18" ones for the little bit of ride improvement.

I was also interested in the black rims and covers, it could look really unique on the Mach-E and hopefully there would be an efficiency increase.

Wheel weight has a negligible impact on range when compared with aerodynamics. It matters but areo matters a lot more.

Have you seen the audi Ken Block is rocking with 21” versions of these? Amazing.
