This may sound silly or too basic, but I do better using my thumb instead of my finger.
Not silly at all. Maybe I'll try it. Thumb is larger than a finger and it might be easier to "push" the icons.

Another thing that helps me a lot is to use the frame of the display to anchor my hand. It's much easier to touch the correct spot if my hand is holding the edge of the display while I do this.

This might be why Ford provides the floating edges in the first place.

My previous car had a large palm rest in front of the touch screen, which was similarly helpful for hand stability.

Actually the inch was originally defined as the width of a kings thumb. I think that is why most car buttons are 1 inch. I see nothing wrong with your preference.

This is exactly what I’ve found gives me the best results!

I do wish the seat warmer and fan speed functioned by increasing with additional taps instead of having to move the slider up or down.

One thing that pops up frequently (just did in comment #34) in these UI threads - and which I and others have mentioned consistently - seems to be a great solution to many of these issues (sliders/buttons/hard to use in moving vehicle, etc.).

Make the Volume control CONTEXT SENSITIVE.

It's big, easy to adjust without taking your eyes off the road, etc.

Examples:
> Touch the Fan control and the 'volume' button now adjusts the fan speed.
> Same for temperature
> Etc. Lots of possibilities

See this thread:

Yup. This is a popular enhancement request in the Super Poll. It's a no-brainer. Kinda disappointing Ford still hasn't implemented it a year later.

The Infotainment GUI is really pretty good. At first, I was a little frustrated by the nesting of some of the HVAC controls. But one tap of the HVAC button brings up what you need in an organized, intuitive manner. My only complaints:
  1. The system can be a bit laggy at times, but overall it's pretty good.
  2. As many others have said, making the volume knob multi-use (aka context sensitive) would be awesome and it alleviates all the gripes about having to use sliders for cabin temp, heated seats, etc. @Ford Motor Company It would be such a no-brainer to do this.
  3. It currently takes two (sometimes laggy) taps to get to the Access screen to do things like open the trunk, etc. That's buried too deep. Give us a dedicated trunk button on the main screen, or (like the climate functions) make it one-tap deep MAX.
  4. Would be nice to have a dedicated button to activate the front and 360 cams (when driving under a certain speed). These cams are very helpful when parking and they are supposed to automatically activate, but they don't do that reliably.
  5. It's dumb that some settings are deactivated while driving, while others are permitted.
I likewise think the IPC (Driver's screen) GUI is good. Less is more for me.
