Just joined the forum. I installed a NEMA 14-50 in my garage connected to a 220V-50a breaker. I used the 14-50 receptacle HD sells… looks identical, UL rated, how is it different from the Hubble brand unit? No issues so far except with the Ford EVSE… just replaced under warranty (amber light). Going to purchase either the JuiceBox or Chargepoint for regular use.
Look at the differences. Top photo shows a cheap Leviton above a Hubbel. The screws directly twisting on the stranded wire makes for an unreliable connection compared to the saddles on the Hubbel.
Bottom photo shows the inferior blade contact area. I don’t need to tell you which is which!

The comments on the photos are not mine.

Thanks for the info, will definitely upgrade to the Hubble. Scary, and potentially dangerous, that so much is still evolving regarding home charging, much less commercial Installations. Thanks.

The Home Depot outlet won't hold up over time. If you have good connections and leave the charger plugged in, it may last, or may not. Some have melted. That's one reason I hardwired, second reason was to get the JB48 instead of a 40.
Thanks, will definitely upgrade before I purchase the new home charger. Have been using the Ford supplied EVSE, which I believe maxes out at 30a. The Ford unit just started throwing the “amber” fault, and dealer replaced under warranty.

I had one of those Levitons fail at a friends house with his dryer. The contacts opened up until they melted and thankfully flipped the breaker.

I used the Hubble because of just a better and I think safer quality. I have the Juice Box 40--Has been flawless and plug never get's hot. I suggest spent the few extra bucks for a better product and not have to worry about it.

Just returned from dealer which tested the Ford mobile charger. The input leg to the charger, i.e. that connects the 14-50 to the mobile charger is failing. They ordered a new unit, which should be available early next week. They did not indicate if the cable or the plug into the mobile charger is faulty. I suspect it is the plug.

I want to support having a dealer test the unit if you experience problems with the mobile charger. Also, I contacted two dealers. One said testing may require a couple of days. The other said maybe 30-60 minutes. I used the second dealer. If a dealer says testing could take a couple days they either are not qualified or don't have the needed equipment.

I have been noticing that my charging rate with Ford mobile charge droppped from ~22 miles/hr to ~11 miles/hr. The amber light almost always remains on. The charger surface temp is measuring 121F, see picture. Granted its hot in texas but should the charger get this hot??

defective charger or "normal"?

121F is not excessively hot for an EVSE, especially in the Texas summer. Your FMC is defective, like many others reported herein.
