GPS satellites are in space ... they don't care where you are on the planet.
I don't think that's what's in question.

They are speculating that perhaps the car is using the location information it receives in an invalid way that prevents charging (due to software bug?). Most of those having problems are in the Chicagoland area.

It may be coincidence that several people who posted about it happen to live near Chicago. I'm in Dearborn and it happens to me as well.

BUT... I did message Ron about it and they are aware of it. It sounded like they have a fix in mind. Hopefully that means this may all be moot soon enough.

the car "Charging Location" uses GPS and/or the cell phone towers to locate the car.
I don't understand why they would program the car to need some kind pf GPS verification prior to accepting a charge...what does your location have to do with whether or not the car should start charging? Adding GPS to the picture just increases the possibility that someone could get stranded somewhere with a car that wont charge.

The idea is to set profiles by location. For each location you can set charging times and levels. If you're not at one of your stored locations, the car's current location should have no effect on charging.

One of the speculations is that the problem these folks are having could be related to these saved locations. I don't think anyone said that it was necessary for the car to 'know where it is' to be able to charge.

Let's wait and see what the problem/solution actually is.

I am talking about the charging preferences at a specific location (Home or Work) in my case i can charge on 240v everywhere but home. and on weekends on 240v at home but not weekdays.

I went back to my dealer today to pick up my temporary license plate since they couldn’t create it on Saturday. I went to the service department and spoke with the lead person who is in front of the electric vehicles and shared what we are experiencing regarding level two charging at our homes. Also mentioned that work is being done directly with the Ford engineering team. I asked them to open a ticket on my behalf so that Ford can see that there are several instances of issues with home charging.

if others haven’t already done so, consider contacting your dealers service department and ask them to open incidents on your behalf so that we can demonstrate to Ford that this is an issue at least in the Chicagoland area.

If you have a "time of use" rate-plan from your electric utility it is cheaper to charge at night. If you're away from home and plug in for a charge you probably want that charge to start immediately.

The car only wants to know where it is so it knows if it should start charging immediately ... or wait for the off-peak charging times.

Even if you are at a location where the car is supposed to wait to charge (e.g. home) you still have the ability to make the car charge anyway (it wont *make* you wait ... it's just waiting because you set the preference in the charge location profile).

So it really is not a case of location being the problem. Bob (@kWhpony) was kind enough to bring his MachE over to my house last night and his car would not charge on 240V in my garage. He never set any charge settings and never even charged in his own garage yet so his car should have been able to charge if this was a location thing. He then went home and found out that he could not charge there either. I was hoping his car would charge at my house but it just so happens he joins us in this small group of cars experiencing this problem. But we keep eliminating potential theories by trial and error.

Just wondering. Did Bob send the “Remote Vehicle Setup” On FordPass when he first received the car? In my case I sent it to the car, didn’t get to the car for couple hours, I opened a different profile on the car, few hours later remote setup got to the car and I think this triggered a conflict. I never entered any settings for the weekend in either profiles. Now as I stated before, I can charge on 240v everywhere but home during the week. And on weekends it works everywhere even at home. If any of my neighbors like to come over this coming Saturday, I am in Bloomingdale, Illinois. Hopefully Ford can fix the issue before Saturday ?.

Sorry, You probably mentioned it before but what exact settings are you using to setup charging. Do you program from the car or app. Are you using, "charge when plugged" in? Or the preferred settings when you add times. What are your times? This app is much harder to use than it should be. I am another Illinois owner in Tinley Park, Il. I also have a Grizzl e installed and can't use it.

@Ponypower50, I my app set to 'charge when plugged in'. The preferred times settings never have worked for me. Whenever I tried to set them, I got the prompt to select the provider, selected ComEd, and got an error telling me to manually set the times. Because I can charge at 120V, I have seen that the times are completely ignored. I feel like the FordPass app is completely useless in this regard.

I’m using the manual setup from the app with anytime as my preferred time (24h), with 90% as max charging. It works on both 120v and on weekends on 240v. I would like to set a specific time but I’m afraid to change anything now. The car still get confused between my address and my neighbor‘s address regarding the preferred departure time. Which is set to 5:50am. It will do it if it picks my address but not my neighbor’s.
