I'm looking for a 2021 Premium AWD in black. I'll update the original post.
With 2-hour drives and climbing up at the end of the trip, you probably need an extended range as well. Close to 60K.
And the color might be something that you will need to sacrifice and leave for the next time...

I work for a dealer in sales ( I'm speaking of California), your plan is what people use in normal times on regular cars when there is plenty inventory and no shortage of chips. someone gave you the right advice, remember if you can find a Mach-E in dealer inventory , it is most likely a cancelled order, most dealers will have a mark up because most people are happy ( really)to pay it instead of waiting for 5-6 months. Most dealers will not charge a mark up on orders.

To be fair, your experience in California may not apply in say….. Nebraska or Kentucky.

The deals are out there if people are willing to travel.

And like you said, “Most dealers…..” but not all.

I did something similar in 2016 when I was looking for a new leftover 2015 Chevy SS.

There was a 15% off rebate and some dealers in Kentucky (1000 miles away) were doing 25% off.

I figured what it would cost to ship and then called every dealer that still had one in stock (after talking to my local dealer first and they couldn’t get one for the $$) and made my offer. It would cost $1k to get the Kentucky car shipped to me, so if they could match or get it to my door for cheaper, done deal.

Only took a couple hours but the 7th or so dealer said yes, did all the paperwork and financing over the phone online and set up shipping. Cost $1/mile to ship it 500 miles to me and it showed up 2 days later.

And while I don’t necessarily agree that salespeople are “people,” I do think you should be kind to them on the phone. ?

For the record, I don't plan on actually hanging up the phone on a human. I just don't plan on "coming down to the dealership to talk".

I'd just prefer not to play the games and I think with my willingness to search pretty much the entire east coast I will be able to find an honest dealer willing to sell me a car at the manufacturer's suggested retail price.

Chip shortage be damned.

A dealer that we ordered a second mache from because we changed our mind from Premium to GT Helped us write up the order and we said “in the meantime, if you get any turned down GTs please call us!” Sure enough, five weeks later he had one, called us, and the order process was over! A fast decision, made in 24 hours, but so happy.

good luck, get the word out to dealers that you have the cash and are ready to buy, no adm. Be prepared though, you may have to give up a few options you thought you had to have. Check all the online delivery Car dealers as well. get everything in writing, and you should search on this forum for posts with help locating a car. Oh, and you have to be the original owner to get the federal 7500$ tax credit.

believe it or not, most dealers will be upfront and tell you if they can do it at MSRP or not, management sets the rule and nobody wants to waste time when they know it is not going to happen.

Nah, informed buyers payed less than msrp in normal times. Now informed buyers pay MSRP or less.
I live in California and I have never payed MSRP, even my Mach e was technically under MSRP bought off the lot. In “normal” times my 2018 4runner was under MSRP OTD. Just have to find A decent dealer.

See if the dealer takes x plan. Sign up for that and take off about 1k. Specify you want, in writing, what the out the door price will be. Tell him you want two key fobs.

Good luck, Premiums are pretty hard to find IMO. I see only 1 within 30 miles from me and 3 others at pretty much 60 miles out. All are special orders so probably already someone elses car and spoken for.

I personally wouldn't waste my time calling around when I started my research like 4+ months ago and just ordered and am waiting. As Mach1E said, travelling and picking it up is still $$ so what's the difference with that and paying some ADM?

$1k and time off to take a flight/trip and a long drive back isn't my idea of fun.

+1 on talking to your local dealerships and let them know what you’re looking for. You never know when a dealership gets that order cancelation and has a car sitting on their lot. They call back all the people they know who are looking and the first person who shows up ready to make a deal gets the car. You’ll likely pay a bit over MSRP, but if you want the car that’s likely your best bet.

Also installing 240v 50amp outlet is super easy especially if you are installing it indoors. You can do it yourself in an afternoon.

Flying to get it and driving it back sounds like fun if you’re working from home.

i worked from home and did L1 charging for 9 months. It was okay but a constant charge every night.
moved and put in a L2 at new place. Much better knowing I can get to 80-90% in hours not days.

Wow, I didn't know this! Thanks for letting me know cause I'm sure the dealerships will either be dumb and not know or be shiesty and not care.

I don't have a trade-in. just going in there with a pocket full of money hoping the sharks don't rip me to shreds. I have been told not to let them know I plan on paying for 2/3's the car up front as dealerships make a ton off of financing and I actually won't be as appealing to them.
It’s not a house. The dealer doesn’t care how much your down payment is, only that your loan gets approved. They get full payment either way.

Put down the minimum payment necessary to get loan approval and use the cash to help pay the higher payments.

Consider Ford Options financing. I put down only a $6300 trade-in as my down payment on the $60k MME. Never mention your liquid assets when buying a car. Only tell them there is no trade-in.
