Depending on your company and if you have 3 or more cars you might be able to save some by having the cheap car for you kid and insurance based on primary drivers. My agent tells me my rates may double in a couple months when my 16 year old gets his license. So then I’ll be right there with you.
I know with state farm in Texas that is how my parents did it and even later on. My rates and my siblings rates where based on our car which we were primary driver of. We were allowed to use any of the cars but our main cars were what the rates where on. Btw if you have more drivers than cars then the most expensive drivers will be listed as primaries first. My parents also happen to have at the peak 6 cars to their names and 5 drivers. The 6th car was an old pickuptruck because well when you need a truck it is really nice to have one.
