Is the Mach-E really 7 years behind Tesla?

Believe it or not, and I assume you don't, regardless of the science, governments aren't very good at making decisions. You know who does, ultimately, make good decisions? You and I make good decisions and we don't need the force of government to do it. That's my last word on this. This is not the forum for government debates. I just want to buy a great car and enjoy that great car for many years. If that ultimately helps the world, terrific, but I don't need the government to force me to buy it. I just need companies like Tesla and Ford to develop a car that I want to drive. I've been looking at Tesla and after see this Mach E, I'm very excited about driving a great car with great tech. I'm not doing it to smile at myself in the mirror because I'm saving the planet, I'm doing it to smile at myself in the mirror after having a great time driving my car. If my neighbor would rather have a Mustang GT350, great! Let's ride!

It would be interesting if you could find out more from your coworker - in particular what the recharging policy was. while still only a small sample size, it's more informative than speculation.
I asked him about that. The rental agent made it clear that he only needed to return the car with at least 10% charge remaining.

However like every other product, whether the government forced it on us or not, if the product’s quality doesn’t measure up, it will fail. There have been EVs that just didn’t measure up and consumers didn’t buy them. Those are gone. The CFL bulbs were another case in point. They were forced on the public, but they were terrible. They were very slow to get to full illumination, produced less light output than incandescent bulbs and, ironically, were an environmental hazard.

This is what can happen with mindless government intervention that doesn’t factor in consequences. Fortunately we now have the far better LED bulbs as an energy saving alternative. But that’s more indicative of the private sector stepping in with a superior product rather than responding to government edicts.

It's so easy to decide what is "mindful and science based government action" until it proves not to be true. We have a Mach E because Tesla proved you could make money selling the cars and Ford didn't want to get so far behind that they went out of business.

Or we can each live our own lives as best we can for ourselves, our family, our community, etc. And I'm guessing most of us would do what is right without the government ordering us to do it under threat. And there would be plenty of small, medium and large companies to provide products to support our desire to make our lives better and our children's lives better. Hmmm, sounds like freedom, sounds like America. The only wishful thinking is from those who think government can solve your problems better than you can.

Yeah, that attitude worked wonders for you with Boeing, didn't it?

Unless it was the passengers of the MAX that are to blame, after all they were free to choose another airline/plane, right? And I'm guessing since most (if not all) of them were not even American and/or people you knew personally (like some unbelievable posts I'm reading about covid19 say), who cares?

Believe me, I'm all for freedom, but sometimes even if *most* people would do what's right, it's not enough. And I'm not even sure they would.

Many point to the so called efficiency of Tesla (miles/kilometers per kW) as reason for the title of this thread. The chart here will question such statements.
