Ok this is weird, I hardwired the escort passport max radar detector using the excellent guide in the DIY section and now it’s getting laser alerts randomly (or so I think is random) swapped out the detector for the passport 9500ix from my wife’s car and got the same thing but not at the same places... which leads me to believe that there is a laser emitter somewhere in the car?!? Please tell me I’m not crazy...

Don't think the car uses lidar. Most of the sensors around it are ultrasonic (e.g. sound not light).

Not lasers, but maybe the infrared emitters for the driver monitoring (the black bar behind the steering wheel)??

Could be the internal motion detector linked to the alarm system

It could be the IR coating on the windshield causing the detector to go off. Move it up into the black area of your windshield and see if it stops. Thats the only spot that doesn't have that coating.

what is this IR coating? Doesn’t seem to be on other cars?

It blocks infrared light. So you don't feel the heat from the sun. But, it also affects electronics. If you have a toll pass, it will only work in the black dotted area that doesn't have the coating. The coating blocks the radio waves.

This is the first car I have owned that has it. But its not new.

There is a chance its causing a small signal from the detector to bounce back into itself and go off.

Are the 2 mutually exclusive ??

ll the Mach E's have it. As mentioned, maybe put the radar detector on the black dotted area to see if it continues?

Is it possible that you are driving by newer luxury cars that use laser cruise control or have laser headlights?

i sure hope it is just that... i still need to move the detector to the black area near the top - issue is, the hardwire cable seems to short to reach the left side... as i have the dashcam on the right side :( it'll have to be next weekend.. :(
