That's why it's important that as many of us who have the issue, especially those who can show the charging graphs report it to the dealer so they can tell Ford. Even those who have the plugged in not charging, so that dealers can request an actual fix. I don't think dealers like wasting time so the more information going up the food chain the better

Mine is doing the same on a 40amp. The app shows charging speed fluctuating between 8kw and 6kw now. Most of the time it is at 6kw. This happened after the update. I used to always be at 8kw. I posted about it in a thread and people said it was due to the port/evse supposedly overheating and the new software reduces the charging speed to cool it down. I think Ford went too aggresive on this. I have definitely noticed a difference in how long it takes to charge when I plug in at work.

I took mine into dealer for this issue. They investigated and confirmed with Ford that the new update will derate charging amps if a high temp is reached inthe charger port. They found I had a bad thermister which was reporting extremely high temps so they changed out the charger port harness assembly. i just got the car back yesterday and have not needed a charge yet so I dont know if this fixed the problem or not. Time will tell

Let us know if it does. Please go out for a drive now to ensure charging is needed by night fall. ;)

I keep on seeing more and more new threads popping up regarding this. I dont know if we should sticky this or something but it seems that people are not using the search efficiently and dont find the one of many threads regarding this issue.
One thing is certain, it is not normal that all these people are having this issue. How bad is the harness for all of us to need a new harness? How long until this becomes a recall like the handbrake issue? We are lucky that we have warranties, I am starting to dread the day when we don't have a warranty and we might have to pay out of pocket for something that is obviously a design issue (software or hardware) while we wait for @Ford Motor Company to fix the problem.

Just left the dealership. My wife’s car is registered as having this complaint. That the car is derating the charging speed. Most likely this is an inappropriate derating as my charge port, wiring harness, and entire SOBDM was replaced 4 months ago. I strongly suspect that one of the software people sneezed while adjusting the sensitivity slider in the last update.

Charging this morning. The fans where running when it was charing at 40amps, now it's charging at 29amps, vents closed, pump running for the last 30 min. Coolant temp hit 105 for the battery and the vents opened, fan running on low.

edit: So it charged for about 2 hours, then did it's thing where it stopped charing completely for about 10~15 seconds and started up again. Now the fans are ripping on high but it's still charging at 40amps. Almost like it's resetting it's clock after 2 hours and it does the ~20 minutes of high charge again.

That is a very interesting observation. It correlates with what I experienced when charging in the driveway but I thought it was due to something I did (waking up and starting the car).

Ford Mustang Mach-E L2 charging speed recently dropped 33% Screenshot 2023-07-26 at 12.11.13 PM

The first stop/start was when the fans came on and ramped up (first notch on the left) It then ran and did it's second stop/start. On the second one the EVSE rolled back power due to handle temp. Then 4.4kW/h rate for a long time where it stop/started again, twice. I wasn't in the garage and the car/phone/key never moved when any of these stop/starts happened.

It appears now the 4.4kW rate is requested via the car as the handle temp etc have all gone to something reasonable.

I’ve never measured above 108° at the handle. But I’m doing that with my IR thermometer gun.

The prongs get a lot hotter than the exterior handle temp. You’d have to unplug it and immediately shoot the prongs with your temp gun because they will cool down rapidly in about 10 seconds.

I agree, has to be a software issue where it is hitting many people with different EVSE’s.

fine for 15 months and then all of a sudden this happens?

this is not a case of first year car “problems” this is a case of software guys missing something.

before this were people having issues with the charging ports needing to be replaced because the charges were at 48 or 40 amp. I haven’t read about it but maybe it’s possible.

the big issue to me is nothing from Ford. Why can’t they tell us something. Why do we have to guess. Great customer relations.

I have a feeling when they did the DCFC update they botched which type of charing should be going on when it throttles back. That or they apply(ied) some form of multiplier to the temp sensor on the port and have it wrong.
