I got the Emporia last week, a big 5% off for Black Friday, lol. I have used the Ford mobile charger since I got the car in July 21, but I would like better information on how much power I used and the warranty will expire in a few more months. I already had the Emporia Vue which works with the charger, but not sure how yet. I needed a 3ft extension cord to plug in the Emporia since the outlet was installed for the Ford which has the cord going up, and the Emporia going down. Not work the extra expense to rewire just to get from 40A to 48A.

And yeah, I saw the dips during charging that others mentioned, but most of the time - about 3 hours for my first run to 90% - it stayed pretty close to 9.5kWh. Now I'm trying to reconcile what the charger reports vs what FordPass thinks the car got.

One additional bonus is if we have a lot of load on the house, for example running the oven and the cooktop and dryer, the Emporias together can throttle back the charger.

Grizzle-E is the way to go. Well built, highly recommended (just look at the posts), and I researched a lot of them before going with this one.

I have an Open EVSE as my main charger because I like the 48 amp capacity. A couple times a month I need to charge from near zero to 100% between like midnight and 6:30 for back to back business trips. It replaced a GrizzleE that topped out at 40 amps.

I love the Open EVSE and basically use it as a dumb charger but occasionally I find myself using the GrizzleE as a back up, like this week when I updated the firmware on the OpenEVSE and inadvertently bricked it with a stray mouse click on configuration. After some emails with customer support it's back on line now but the software glitch was a pain.

Also, if you go with something 48 amp, you'll need to spend $$$ on 6 gauge wire from your main breaker box and honestly 40 amps is pretty fast -- just not quite fast enough for my needs a couple nights a month.

So yeah, I'm firmly in the GrizzleE camp. It's easy to install and use, it's built in Canada and designed for tough Canadian winters, the unit works flawlessly and customer service has been superb.

Like others here, I have the Grizzle-E that I run with it set at 32 amps since my circuit is only 40. I have it mounted on the ceiling with the charging code hanging down where I park my Mach-E. Purchased 1 year ago and zero issues. I just rely on the Ford app for the smarts, so didn't need the smart version of the charger. Price point and quality were both attractive.

I'm another big fan of the Emporia system. It can charge up to 48 amps/11.5kW with a hardwired connection to a 60 amp breaker. The default is 40 amps/9.6kW when using NEMA 14-50P outlet. Also, the cable to the car is 24' long. At $399, it's really a great deal. My final cost was $49 after a $350 utility comany rebate!!

The only feature that's not optimal for me is the dock for the J1772 plug. It works, but requires the plug to inserted upside down (pin side up) or awkwardly inserted right side up by starting with the cable throught the U shaped holster. There is an included soft rubber dust cover that's attached to the J1772 plug. I purchased a separate tradtional dock from Amazon for < $20. Its not required but is more convenient for me.

For those who know about Tom's Hardware on YouTube, he rates the Emporia as his top favorite, closely followed by the Tesla.

Good luck!

Ceiling mount is the way to go.

Grizzl-E are well made (not Chinese), simple to configure for max charge setting (dip switches) up to 40A (10kW), once that's done it's fit and forget. Very long24ft lead.
I also bought a Grizzl-E and recommend it. I went from 20 miles added per hour to over 37 miles added per hour.

The one thing that can't be stressed enough is DONT GO CHEAP ! Buddy is on the Bolt boards and is routinely telling me about guys who went for the cheapest charger they could find and nothing but trouble ensued.
This is a fairly substantial investment that you've made with the car and an even bigger one with your house . Don't risk them both with some poorly made garbage .
Ive used ClipperCreek and I have a ChargePoint Flex . I will say the Flex had some connectivity issues that took away its "smart" features but they replaced it without issue under warranty and all is right with the world now ....atleast MY little corner of it

One overlooked issue is charger cable length. They seem to be fairly universal in length but make sure the one you buy has the length you need if you charge outside or have a 2 car garage and the outlet is on the other side of your car

I use it to turn down my buddies M3's so they can make it home but not fill up on my dime. (yeah I know kinda a D move but I just tell them my stupid MME won't charge above 24amps. lol)

I went with ChargePoint, mainly for cable length, reliability, and features. Being able to set charging times, track usage and electricity costs, and set restrictions on who can charge are main features. I alos appreciate the aesthetics of the charger acting as the cable holder and end-plug mount- these are oddly key items, as it is mounted on a narrow column. I don't regret it, but if I had to do it again, I'd probably consider Grizzl-E.

Setting charging times and monitoring charging performance is now best handled by the vehicles, so adding yet another app to manage the EVSE is superfluous. Save a few bucks, simplify your life, and go with the one that has the best hardware setup. Bonus points if the EVSE can be retrofitted with a NACS replacement cord (fyi, doing a NACS replacement on ChargePoint J1772 is $200).

I'm also an Emporia user, which I've had for a bit over a month. Got an electrician to hard-wire it and install outdoors since I park in the driveway. It's worked great thus far! I do like having the app, if just to check to see if my car is charging or to see how much energy it's using to precondition, etc.

Also, I bought before the Black Friday sale, but still got 5% off by doing a quick web search for "Emporia discount code".

Also, I'll echo the recommendation to check out the State of Charge Youtube channel. He does a great job at comparing EVSEs.
