Hey Folks, got a really weird one here.

So, car is parked in the garage, been there for a couple of days, it snowed pretty good so when I got out I took my truck. Yesterday no issues at all, its plugged in and sitting. This morning I went down to grab the snow shovel to clear the walkway and the liftgate was just... open. Nothing under the car has moved, and the fob is hanging in the closet where it goes when im not driving. Also no way someone unlocked my phone, opened fordpass and held the liftgate open button. The car was unlocked and the liftgate open. Are there any logs of remote actions or anything that I can look into and find out what triggered it? Fortunately the garage is closed and "secured" so I know it wasnt an intruder or anything like that, Im going to check the camera in my garage now to pinpoint when the mirrors unfolded, that should give me the time the gate opened (its not visible where it is). I know it was between yesterday at noon and now.

7:41 pm last night, lights flash and the liftgate opens. Im guessing a remote command or a mouse ran under the car (I know of no actual mice in the garage, there is no mouse evidence, but I wouldnt put it past one going under the garage door). The fob hangs one story above the car, so probably 10 feet plus some insulation, so its possible something triggered it. Though, i will say most of the time if I dont have my phone or fob with me and I push the unlock button (to grab a mask or whatnot from the car) it doesnt respond and I have to enter the code on the B pillar.

I've had this happen regularly in the garage and thankfully never in public. I'm trying to diagnose the reason currently. I'm not sure if it's electrical interference or if it's PaaK. I've been attempting to intercept the Bluetooth communication when it happens, but I'm never lucky enough to get it. I back into the garage and the rear of the vehicle is about 2 inches from the Dryer, so I've wondered if that could be the reason as well.

Most people here will probably tell you to turn off kick to open. But since I've only had it happen in the garage of my house (on 5 acres of gated property) I'm not worried so I haven't disabled it.

If either your phone with PAAK or any fob are within range of the car, it’s prone to having phantom openings. Move the phone, fob or both. Or the car. :)

Yep. That is what I did. To be clear though, my hatch never opened like that. I disabled it because the kick sensor is too sensitive and just walking behind the car opens the hatch.

It does seem like everyone that I've seen report this happening to, its happened in the garage.

Mine is always parked in the garage, and its never happened on either of the MME's I've had. I also use PAAK, and it can randomly connect almost anywhere in my house and it still hasn't done it.

Yeah I've wondered if it's some form of electrical interference since my electrical panel is about 5 feet from the rear of vehicle and the dryer is just a few inches. My nephew told me it was aliens so that's also a working theory.

Yeah, i wont deny theres a ton of wireless going on around my house, I would BET that its soemthing went under the car, I dont know of any animals actively living in the garage, but its super cold out and the garage is warmer, so I wouldnt be surprised.

I wish I could move the fob or car, but unfortunately the way my house is built the garage is in the basement, and you cant get 30 feet from the car in any direction unless you were in the attic lol.

Also this is the first time and ive had the car since august. Also the first time its been below 10F outside.

Its really not a problem for it to happen in the garage, its more the unknown of WHY than the actual opening. its a 10 foot ceiling and nothing over the car other than a light.

My panel is right next to the car, so probably 5 feet as well or so.

Dryer is inside though. Go run your dryer all day and see what happens. ?

Well if I figure it out I will let you know. If it was happening in public I would be quite concerned, but since I've never had that happen I haven't been too worried. It happens to me at least once a week.

if it happens again Im gonna start investigating, ive got a couple of wireless unifi cameras I could stick one on the floor of the garage to see if something runs under it. Ide be more inclined if there were some evidence of critters, to think that, but so weird.

What type of motion sensor does that feature use? Is it PiR? I have some motion sensors around the house that have been tripped when the heater comes on because it sees the sudden hot air as a person if they were pointed at a heating vent.

Has to be PIR, theres no IR coming off of the back, sonar would be the other option, though probably not cost effective.
