Picked up my ‘22 Premium 4X a few days ago and drove a few hundred miles yesterday across several trips. It happened to me twice.

For other folks that have had this; is it a regular occurrence, or just a couple random times?

Happend twice to my 22. I’ve had the car for 4 months. No clear reason.

You running carplay or Android auto at the time?
It happens to me too. Maybe 3 times in 20k miles. I run AA. I don't sweat it though because it basically does the vol down-skip forward reset and comes back fine.

Not once in over 8 months.

I did get this occasionally in my old Chevy Bolt. The first time was as I drove it off the dealer lot brand new. But it was infrequent and caused no real problems.

It might be performing updates in the background? I have never successfully received an OTA update but know the center screen definitely drops out on some updates via FDRS.

this has happened to me a good 7-8 times. Always while I'm driving. usually while connected to carplay.

I've seen this happen infrequently with both AA and CarPlay, but more often AA very rare CarPlay.

I think there's race conditions or memory leaks in both the AA and CarPlay receiver code used by the Mach E.

It probably requires more testing by Ford, or more modern practices of sending y'know a crash report with logs when the thing crashes. That way they might learn about bugs like this from their systems instead of an internet forum.

First time it happened to me was when I started it up leaving a store, screen was blank and never came back until I manually rebooted it when I got home. The second time I was driving and the screen went blank and rebooted itself.

This just started happening to me as well. Twice since the last OTA update, a little over a week ago. I’m now over a year with my GTPE and up until this last update I felt like the software was pretty good. @Ford Motor Company please do better QA before pushing updates to vehicles.

My main screen recently turned black and it seems the system rebooted while I was driving. The driver screen stayed on. This is the 2nd time this happened with both timed Android Auto being connected. It immediately rebooted and came back up.

Has this happened to others? Any cause for concern except a minor annoyance?
*some* displays have bad chips that go black when overheated.

temporary workaround is to put a towel or cardboard or something behind display so sun doesn't hit it. You might also want to switch to 'dark' display instead of 'light'. Carplay or AndroidAuto probably add to the internal heat as well....

real fix is to bring it in, tell dealership you have a bad display, and they *should* replace it.

Then, my theory is that a cover or screen on the back of display should prolong life of display as long as it allows a little air circulation. I recently got an AOSK 'center organizer', and modded it for this purpose.

It is LIKELY not the update, but just temperature related.

Screen goes blank during OTA updates. I suggest that you set the update schedules to midnight.
